They better be very careful with this. I can easily see people abusing this to hurt their competitors. It would not be a very difficult process to automate on a pretty big scale.

The plugin source code, looks like they are reporting the URLs directly to G, after someone clicks the block-website in the SERPs button. ![]() |

Google made it sound like it was a feature to just personalize the individuals results to their liking LOL So on second thought I might just create a software to do this instead of outsourcing if their not tracking the searchers IP's!... watch out for my WSO ![]() how many people do they really think will do this? Chrome already has a pretty small market share (less than 16% use chrome to find my site... nearly more people find my site using an iphone than chrome) and on top of that who will actively go out of their way to do this... the average searcher is lazy. I think this will have the same impact as the stupid stars google places in their search results and truly have no impact on ranking for 99.9999% of sites.

Wonder what happens If that url (screenshot above) happens to show up on a competitions website, then Google crawls the page.

OMG... HOW stupid are they? Agreed, they are finally admitting they have no clue how to detect quality content. They could start by blocking eHow... a content farm if ever there was one |

True, they can't detect quality, like I've always said they are based on keywords (not much more), that's why spun articles slip past them. No doubt ehow is one of the largest. What's funny about ehow is, last I checked they were running Adsense.

If they knew the real deal, there might be some kind of mass exodus - if only there was anywhere to go. The thing that annoys me is that the bright idea to rank popularity rather than actually ranking quality has been the motivator behind most of the webspam out there. In other words, they are the ones who built a flawed system - and then make out that they are the "good guys", the "do no evil" guys. Most people are at the survival level and will build whatever kind of web pages make a buck, and if it happens to be crap ones then so be it. Imagine what the internet would be like if quality content really was rewarded. Getting users to "vote" content up or down is stooping to the level of digg if you ask me - do they really think this is going to improve things? if someone could build a new type of search engine that actually finds the good stuff (whoo, what a concept!), they could put G out of business. I think that's beyond the scope of current A.I. though.
