Ok, So I have This Pretty Large Site...

Ok, so i have this pretty large site. Its a PR 4, and It is a directory which includes every state in the US. I noticed my PR goes down the deeper into my site, so for example:

mysite.com = PR4

which links to mysite.com/Florida = PR 3

which links to mysite.com/Florida/Bars = PR 2

Then, i noticed that pages that were linked directly from the hompage were a PR 3, so for example:

mysite.com/FloridaBars = PR 3

Would it be advantageous (and not spammy) to link to all my pages from the homepage? I mean, if my page rank is bumped up a notch from this simple little trick, why not? Is it considered spammy?

What's happening is the Index page & category pages are being updated all the time, they also have a lot more internal links than an individual blog post page.

Are your category pages in your sidebar & show on most of your sites pages?

I did a test on one of my tech blogs. I took a single blog post page & hard coded the URL into the top of the sidebar, this url shows on every single page.

What happend was that single blog post page has the same PR3 as the Index page, with very few low PR external backlinks pointing to the individual blog post page.

I did a test on one of my tech blogs. I took a single blog post page & hard coded the URL into the top of the sidebar, this url shows on every single page.

Actually my category pages are only linked (well the great majority of them) from the home page. I have so many categories, it would make it hard to put everyone on the side bar. I think what google really wants to see is functionality and usability, but that is very hard to do with my site.

I just have a feeling that if i link to every page from my home page there may be some sort of penalty, which of course i want to completely avoid.

I wouldn't link to every single page from your Index page. If your site is large that would be a lot of links on a single page (Index page).

Are you doing any internal linking on all the internal pages, besides categories?

Example, link new related article/page with keyword anchor-text to an old article/page.

Yes actually I am. Well, I have about 30 pages of new content going up per week, and what i am doing is side linking to related categories at the bottom of the page.

So for example, I have an article on Bars in Florida, and at the bottom of the page I put "related activities", and link to other things in Florida, like "you may also be interested in: night clubs in florida (space) Snorkeling in Florida (space) and etc.

This is for the better overall user experience stuff. Each word is of course anchor text.

Ok, does the keyword anchor-text show up when you look at your sites feed?

Your better off having the keyword anchor-text so that it shows in your feed, each time you post a new page/article. That way your new page is linking to an old page that is related with similar text.

I actually don't have a feed for it. Do you recommend one? I would place this on the homepage I assume?

Are you running Wordpress?

Yes, I always run my sites with a feed, most are Wordpress sites so it already has a feed setup.

Unfortunately No, Im using dreamweaver and I hate it. Haha. I'll figure that out i guess.

One more question for you, lets say i break it down by category, and well say the category is Bars.

If I created a category for bars and anchor text every bar I have written about, so for instance:

Bars in Florida
Bars in New York
Bars in New Jersey
Bars in Texas
Bars in California
Bars in Illinois
Bars in Nevada
Bars in Chicago
etc.
etc.
Like 50 more pages of bars

Is this considered keyword stuffing, even though they go to pages with unique content? Like, is this specific page keyword stuffed because it says "bars" 50 times?

I would go with something like this:

.../arizona-az/...
.../kentucky-ky/...

And maybe on the Index page or sidebar anchor-text something like this:

Maybe add a title to each category anchor-text.
