I bought Bob Bly's internet retirement plan and wrote an ebook on real estate investing, which I have some experience at and am passionate about. Now I have a Wordpress blog on the subject and am putting a lot of articles on it. The trouble is that I hardly have any traffic going to it. Can my website be saved and modified to start getting traffic, or should I scrap it and start from scratch looking for a 'hungry market'? Any comments or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Hal Homes Without Payments |

In terms of keywords, it's never too late to start adding articles targetting keywords that are getting searched for and pointing backlinks at them using that keyword as the anchor text. It's a slow process, but if you do your keyword research and keep at it (Keep adding articles. Keep adding backlinks to old and new articles) you'll see your traffic grow. |

I agree completely. It's not too late. Use the google adwords tool or market samurai and find the keywords related to your market that are getting searches and then optimize! You don't need to change everything or start over. I'm sure there are plenty of keywords in your market already- you just need to find what they are. There is still a lot of hope! Daniel J. |

Do not scrap your site just update it. The changes will keep the content fresh. Get organised and spreadsheet your keywords. Decide on some that will be sprinkled all over your site (called sitewide keywords) and ones that will be specific to a particular page or post. Drop Bob an email and ask for some help. He's been responsive to me in the past. |

Forget it! You're screwed forever and you'll never get a site ranked properly! Just kidding, all you have lost is time but before you jump into the plugins and started linking articles to keywords do some basic keyword research first. What real estate niche are you trying to target and then figure out the keywords you need to drive the traffic. This will save you a lot of grief later. |

Um.........how do you write something with NO keywords in it? Anything you write is going to have words that are picked up - you might not have the ones you want, but there have to be some in there. There is a panel on WP that allows you to chose keywords for each article. Aren't you using it? If your WP doesn't have that feature you need to grab a plugin. Also - what keywords are in your meta-tags? Write something on each of those. You could actually get slapped for having meta-tag keywords that don't match any of the information on your site. Another factor is that just because you have WP doesn't mean you're going to get top rankings. You still have to optimize. Do you use ping-o-matic and ping every article that you put up? Do you ever bookmark any of your articles? Are all of your blog entries conversational or do you ever put up an actual article that you can submit to submission sites? Just some stuff to think about. |

It is a little hard to tell what your site is for when you go to the home page. It looks pretty much like an info site, it does not look like a site where you are trying to sell something. Could you tell a little more about the purpose of your site. Most of the things you asked can be fixed or worked with in some way but it would help to know a little bit more about why you have the site. |

Don't panic and dump everything. Simply do some keyword research in your niche and start putting up content with the added keywords. You could probably edit some of your existing content with keywords as well. I've often gone back and updated a site with some additional content and keywords, and usually see an improvement over time. |

JMichaelZ, Thanks for the advice. The site is a blog and is supposed to sell my ebook and special reports/calculator software for people who want to buy a duplex, live in half of it and rent out the other half. That way they live rent free. Does that help? Thanks, Hal |

I agree with the other posts. It is definitely not too late. Geez, no keywords? Have you posted any videos on Youtube discussing the eBook and including a link back to your website? How about writing articles that allow for author tags and links back to your website? These are just two, of numerous, ways to get some traffic to your website.

| You can optimize your blog by using keywords in demand in your headlines, subheadlines, and articles. You must also use many other promotional strategies, besides caring about SEO. Promote your blog through videos, and forum posts. Leave comments in various blogs related to your topic, answer questions at Yahoo Answers and Quora, etc. There is a lot of work involved on promoting a blog and getting enough traffic. Here is a thread about blog promotion: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-internet-marketing-discussion-forum/313382-how-promote-my-blog.html All the best! |
