A while back I was reading an seo blog and someone did a little case study, I think it was on Amazon.com, that illustrated how they were able to programmatically tell the google spiders what site description to show on the search results page based on the keyword phrase searched. So, the exact same destination page was ranking for two variations of a search phrase (same page, not two different pages), and based on which was searched the sites meta description that was shown to the potential visitor varied, allowing the site to tailor their description for potentially higher CTR. Does anyone happen to know about doing this, or read the same post? I can't find it anywhere, and I am kicking myself that I didn't bookmark it because I really want to try it. I'm also starting to think I made this up ![]() Thanks for any help on his. David |

Hmm, based on no answers from the seo forum so far, i'm guessing this is either: - some seriously tricky/advanced stuff that people simply don't know about - some seriously awesome stuff that people want to keep to themsevles - or I made it up and is not possible Anybody? |

As far as I know Google either use the meta description to display in the SERP or they might occasionally make their own description. I guess those guys found the trick to manipulate on that. They must have done some extensive tests. I don't think many of us knows the trick. |

DavidCutter, there is no magic in this. Google (for years) applies his snippet generator to synthesize the best relevant snippet from the meta description and the page content for any keyword given. There are no means to manipulate it programmatically. Regards George |
