Try this in google:

your_keyword “powered by smf” site:.edu

This way you can find .edu smf forums in your niche. You can of course change the forum names to whichever forums you want phpbb, ipb etc.

I had the same question just a week ago. I found search for edu links extremely laborious and tedious and not worthwhile.

They are definitely valuable but I think it's worth buying a list of 20-50 edu site from someone that has painstakingly collected them. That saved me hours of searching and now I can use those backlinks all the time!

Ive got some good lists and also links from Fiverr. Definately worth a look and cheap. Although these can be over subscribed. I tend to search for them myself using the google search commands to find those golden nuggets.
