It does stay long if it's good, valuable, unique, relative information that you're contributing. Also, it should be grammatically correct if posted to en.wikipedia.org...

My links have been kickin for about 30 days now too... Would have been a lot longer if I was smart about it at first and didn't start arguing with mods... They are crazy Crazy CRAZY strict and there are thousands of "contributors" that are just waiting to call people out for shameless self-promotion!

All my wiki backlinks are still live (100%), the one link I said earlier in this thread that I thought was deleted, was actually changed by a Wiki-Mod. I have no idea why they pointed that backlink at another page, I'm still all good with the rest of the backlinks so I won't bother asking why, besides I have more than enough other wiki links to compensate.

I posted my first set of wiki backlinks the first week of February 2011, I havn't lost a link yet.

I just want to make it clear, I do not spam my backlinks on wikipedia.

As a matter of fact, I'm creating content for three pages (on average) & only creating a single backlink pointing to my own site (per three pages of wiki content). The reason I'm doing that is to build trust with my wiki user account, & not spam my links like you would see people do on forum profiles as an example.

The way I'm getting links is 100% legit with wiki. They actually ask for help, that's what I'm doing. In exchange for the help, I'm getting one-way wiki backlinks that stick.

Getting (& keeping) wiki links, you really need to forget most of the stuff you've learned over the years on how to get backlinks. This is nothing like a forum profile or blog comment backlink. The only thing that is the same is the link itself + anchor-text.

I'm working on a pdf that will detail what I'm doing, to keep wiki links.

I think people should start to read the rules of the websites they want to work with. It is the same with Wikipedia. I became an editor there and I updated many pages with quality content, I created one more page and watched for vandalism changes. I created a backlink 15 days ago and it is a PR5, it also gave me a PR3 backlink from answers.com which has the content for that page from Wikipedia. It is not a spam link, I edited that page with more information that was on my website too.

As yukon said 'this is nothing like a forum profile or blog comment backlink', this is not something to use for spam. You can try, and maybe your link will get indexed but this will just give work to mods and editors to revert your changes and get your profile or IP banned(if you keep doing it).

Try to contribute quality content and in time you can get backlinks too.

Actually, I think this is a great thing, why keep the same standards? It should get higher and higher all the time. This is how we grow.
It is also good for IM, the smart marketers will make more money while there will be less fast-money ones.

I bet the secret is a reference link which is on most Wikipedia pages. You simply blog about the subject of the Wikipage and add your link to the references section on the Wikipage. Then inside the actual page you add your text and then point to your reference.

I don't mean to disrespect your method here but There is every chance that Google will slap you. Its a very old Technique. Your link won't stick for long, thats sure as wikipedia moderators are very active and even if it sticks, the big hates spam on the sites he loves and Wikipedia is his first love!

So don't mess around, one link may get you slapped, you won't want it!

Yukon unless you are just setting up a WSO I would advise you to stop. No good thing can come from sharing your steps on an open forum or even by PM to people who ask. Sooner or later some lazy person will come along and use it to spam, do their own WSO or share it on an open forum.

Then poof. I have no idea whether your system works or what real link strength you get from it. I do know that nofollow works the way Google says it does but given Wikipedia's unique position I wouldn't be surprised if it is passing on some other kind of metric that helps ranking.

Just ask yourself though. What strategy shared on Warriors has not been ultimately abused to death until everyone using it wasn't affected?

Exactly, & it's unfortunate that's the way things are when it comes to seo.

It's bad you can't share things with others simply because a few will run it into the ground & screw it up for everyone else.

I think my twist on this technique is what keeps most of my own links sticking on wiki.

No doubt you have to fly under the radar, because the Mods on wiki will delete your links without thinking twice.

Still, my backlinks are going strong for over a month now. The wiki backlinks are showing in both GWT (Google Webmaster Tools) + Yahoo Explorer. Each of my wiki backlinks also has a Google cache with each of my own backlinks intact.

Most guys go into wiki with guns a blazing, that's not the way it works. This isn't your standard backlink, with this backlink you got to give a little before you start backlinking to your own site.

I contribute more to wiki than I backlink. Example, I'm creating content 3 seperate times for ever single backlink I post. Some guys might be thinking wtf, that's a lot for so little backlinks, WRONG, each one of those authority backlinks is like freakin gold.

Also when I say my single link was deleted from wiki, that link still exist on wiki, just in another location. So really I've had 100% success rate since my backlink never really left wiki, it's just in another location.

Yeah, I do the same thing, contribute and wait and post a link in a little while and it should also very relevant... Is that your technique? You must know something else too. Because this is so troublesome... maan!

The purpose of this thread when I first posted was only because I had never used wiki for backlinks until the OP date. I just thought it was kinda cool how fast those links got picked up by Google.
