Default newbie question alert! Finding buyer keywords for my website

For the past couple of months I've been learning about IM and trying to think of ways that I can make money online. I'm learning fast and I'm aware of some great buyer keywords to get targeted traffic to a website that sells a product (even if it is an affiliate product) but how do you make sure that you attract BUYERS not freebie seekers to a website that is aimed at personal coaching? ie my main business.

I tend to use keywords like "healing" "negative thoughts" or "stress" when I am doing articles, but my list is now nearly 700 and I still don't have any regular paying clients!! Admittedly I did used to give away a lot for free, including free sessions but even though I've stopped doing this, I still can't seem to attract buyers. I get great feedback from my newsletter, but nobody seems to want to pay me!

It's also worrying that nearly all of the people that I know in this business that are making good money are business coaches - I don't want to be a business coach and it's getting to the point that I cannot see a future for my business in the niche that I am in.

Should I just give up my main business idea and concentrate my efforts on internet marketing?

HELP! Any advice about attracting buyers rather than information seekers would be great. Thank you.

Target tail keywords with purchasing type words in them, i.e.:

buy widgets
buy widgets online
purchase widgets
widgets buy (yes people use search terms like that)

Seems like personal coaching needs one-on-one, real-time, face-to-face communication and would need to be geotargeted to get local customers. Business coaching is impersonal and more easily fits global customers who can be satisfied with emails and phone calls.

Could that be it?

go for the symptom rather than the broad group and focus on helping them.

be creative and make many avenues to your product.

you can use trigger words to find the best words:

ie:

overcome
stop
negative
get rid of
help
advice

ect...

this will uncover a whole new avenue of possibility and take you down a good road.

i did this several years ago with a client with a marriage book and we converted it to a specific market based on one keyword and he made a whole business out of it (and there were only like 100 searches per day for the word)

Actually no, I do most sessions via skype as it gets better results! However, you could have a point that people don't want to employ a coach that they haven't met, even if the session isn't face to face. Networking has always been one of my weakeast points as I am stuck in the house in the evenings (when I am working on my business) as I have children, so I cannot go out to networking groups.

Thank you - I've used 'get rid of' and 'overcome' in my articles and they ranked really well, even before I knew what article marketing was all about So I guess I am on the right lines but not sending people to a product. They go to my squeeze page which is my list sign up. Hmmm food for thought there.

That is surprising. Are you doing video with Skype? Maybe that is all the personal some people want to get these days...

This is the problem though, they are not buying anything - they are going to my squeeze page to join my list and I offer sessions not a product. Even if I did offer a product, the people that I help have a problem with things like anger, grief or stress - so how could I use a buyer keyword for that? It wouldn't make sense! 'buy anger relief' or 'cheap stress reduction'.

Nope. I don't do video as they will be looking at me rather than focusing on the issue. The methods that I use can look a bit strange to people who don't know about them (EFT/Tapping for example looks completely bizarre but it has a 90%+ success rate). I found that when I did local sessions, people were watching me and concentrating on my movements (and how silly it looked!) rather than on the issue. Skype/phone sessions work much better.

here is how to drum up sales from your previous list...

1. send out a form mail or survey for people to tell you thier situation and what they want to overcome and how they feel... include a spot for thier contact info and offer them a free consultation via phone or skype

2. call them and deliver some killer advice (thats why you got into this in the first place right) and help them... then sell them on your coaching

3. after that... put the same survey or form mail on your thank you page and everytime someone gets your free course... you get questions and you learn about the market...

this works :-) even with non buyer words.

Buyer words are typically those that people use when searching, credit card in hand... such as:
on sale
discount
coupon
for sale
...etc.

also, words that include specific models and colors for products. Since it seems that you have a different type of product, it may be easier to do your research via google with the keywords above and see what results you find.

I have been taught to get in to the buyer's mindset. How do you think when you want to buy a product? What would you type in google if you were ready to buy (the product you have)?

Good luck!

Much success,
Joy

Are you promoting an offline business? Or you only coach through Skype?
You could provide different ways, you could coach them. Skype Chat Type only, Instant Messaging, Phone, or Skype Webcam if they don't mind.

Information seekers aren't bad. If they like your information, then they'd be interested in your coaching 1-on-1. That means that you can't reveal too much in your "free" information on your site, so that they'll want more. But what's the only way to get more? 1-on-1 coaching. Some people like coaching, some don't. If they don't they'll just leave your site.

Ahhh...that one I'm not sure about. Maybe instead of targetting keywords like that, you should go after more emotional keywords like "stop being angry", "anger management", and such.

Hi,

Newbie myself I found the articles below quite helpfull.

Looking at your keywords they seem to be quite general and I wonder if you have thought about long tail keywords like "healing from negative thoughts and stress"?

Have you drilled down in your target niche to find a "urgent problem target group"? If you have then focus on the keywords they would use.

Here are the articles I found helpfull

Internet Marketing In A Nutshell

Maybe they are helpfull to you too.

If you have made a choice, then stick with that and don't keep swapping around to other "tempting offe

Thanks,
