In the few hundred websites I've built or maintained, I've never seen anything like this before. A fairly new site of mine has several of its subpages ranking on page 1 with zero backlinks, but I don't see the homepage/TLD anywhere, and all the backlinks point to the TLD. Also, the homepage has more/better on-page SEO than any of the subpages. Doesn't make sense to me.

Happens with me too after a big backlinking campaign. It's almost like a filter G uses, but the authority still flows to inner pages. Wish I could say when it'd return to normal, but from my experience it's about 2-4 weeks.

"A fairly new site" I think this is exactly why this is occuring! Since your site is new Google is still in the process of determining which pages to rank where and for what keywords those pages should rank. It happens to me all the time! It usually takes around 2 months for Google to figure things out. But I am must say that this usually occurs when I add a whole lot of new content to a new site all at once. |
