Default Holy SEO - HUGE discovery, or coincedence?

So I posted a topic in the Main forum asking about No Follow links and that I recently installed 'Pretty Links' plugin. I know that everyone has their own opinion on the effect of 'no follow' and if it should be used or not...

What Pretty Links is, is it automatically creates redirects on your domain to the affiliate link (I.E: mysite.com/affiliatelink ) - and then gives the option to 'No Follow' that redirect, which I did.

I had complained in my thread that I noticed a keyword that I had on rank 7 for about 1 week now, dropped to rank 12 after I installed this plugin.

This blog is relatively new, so I was unsure if it was the Google Dance or if it really was the plugin.

Took off the 'Pretty Link' on that keyword for that page that went to rank 12.

ONE DAY LATER I am up to rank 10.

I am fairly convinced this was the cause of it all. However, I am uncertain if it was the No Follow, or the redirect link (instead of Google seeing amazon.com as the hypertext link, it saw that redirect page).

Any thoughts?

my thought is that those numbers are far too insignificant for such an assumption. +5, -2, +3, -2, +1...i see that any day on my sites. Its just normal fluctuation, in my opinion.

Coincidence. You don't have enough information or studies to really come to any conclusion about that.

How long did you leave the plugin on or off? It will probably take more than a couple of weeks to fully judge what kinda effect it did or did not do.

Anyways, i'm gonna have to say it's fluctuation considering that your blog is new.

Conclusions like this can never be made with absolute certainty, as it's simply impossible to eliminate all the other variables - there are hundreds of factors/variables in the SEO equation - think of it as a science experiment. It could have been a number of various things that caused these results.

Swords youre right, Ive been experimenting with the pretty link plugin as well only I was using it to test the dofollow strength of the redirect links. (since you can set it to dofollow or nofollow) What I found out is that it is the redirect that causes the problem. There is too much juice that is lost through doing a redirect.

So youre right about pretty links not working, but with my testing it is just because redirects suck at passing link juice;-)

Anyone else have a comment on this?
