Accidental Backlink Explosion

Anyone had the experience where you leave a blog comment and the site has RSS feed (I assume) which then shows that blog on all its pages.
As a result you suddenly start seeing 100's of backlinks overnight from the same site?

Iv'e had this once or twice with a site where I suddenly went up to over 1,000 backlinks with a large majority of them being from the same site.

I assume Google is smart enough to know this is not the webmaster building links too fast, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had this and how it effected their SEO?

It helps, a little bit. RSS feeds aren't treated with the same power anymore, but it still helps.

I don't think you need to worry about it. Ever hear of things going viral? I submitted press releases that have got syndicated on 26,000 sites... I shot up in the rankings obviously. You don't need to worry much about penalties, or the mythical sandbox in my opinion. Just keep working hard and you will have results.

List some of those url's, lots of marketers would love to have a thousand backlinks. :-)

Blog explosion! OH YEA! I have had it happen already on 6 of my sites and the result of it was the sites rocketed to Google first page top ten.

But then they start fading away so keep building those links.

That just happened to me too. I appreciate it because it buffs my backlink count which can be intimidating to my competition - makes it harder to pick out my more valuable backlinks too.
