Well links are links weather its no-follow or do-follow google take it as backlink, the
only thing is that google will not rate your site by that domain pr and you wont get any rank from it but you get a backlink.

I would spend 85% on do-follow and 15% on no-follow, provided those no-follow give me traffic atleast

To explain "No Follow Do Follow" in detail here in one post would be difficult, but I'll give you my opinion on the ".edu" backlink question:

I personally believe that if you can get an .edu link, then get it, even if it is NoFollow. The value of an "edu" link outweighs (by FAR) the limit of NoFollow! It is my opinion that the "NoFollow" thing is over-hyped. Yes, there IS a difference in nofollow and dofollow, but not enough to matter. Personally for me, I will get ".edu" links ONLY if the subject matter is relevant to the page that I am back-linking to. Google has recently began looking closely at .edu links and their relevancy (after the JC Penny and Overstock scandal) and "Cutt'n Heads!"

I get as many Dofollow links as I can! But I will also take a high quality relevant NoFollow link too. In fact, if you have nothing but Dofollow links, then your Page Rank will likely get discounted when Google finds out because they know that this is manipulation and not natural! I make sure that I have a balance of both!

Please keep in mind that everything I just said is only my opinion based on my own research and personal experience!

Hope this helps!

No problem loshmi86, I also like to get more confirmation on things, it makes you feel a little better when you can find several people giving you the same / right (we hope) answer on one question.

If it makes you feel any better, My GanderCo blog is small, unorganized and a little bit ugly but I have still managed to get a Google page rank of 3... but here's the cool part...

My Blog had less than 20 posts on it, PERIOD! And I still have a PR-3!

Yes, I'm a scumbag, but I'm an SEO addicted scumbag! (hey wait, that didn't sound quite as cool as it did in my head) :P

Later!

Gary.
