Default Changing, deleting pages, keywords, urls

One of my sites is approx. 3 years old. It is an authority type site. I bought the site several years ago and added some content to what was already there. The site has never really did much and I've not really done anything with it. It is a niche that has potential though and I now want to really concentrate on it. Going through the site I find that there a pages that overlap content and over all I think the structure is just not well organized. Would it hurt to delete some of those pages and create new and better focused ones? These pages have no rank. I feel it could help to change out keywords/urls and better focus the content in a more organized, engaging way. Is there any downside to this? Thanks.

But they might be RANKING for their keywords. I would leave the URL structure and permalinks as is.

I get virtually no traffic to this site.

Yes, there is a downside. I've had experience with this, as I've moved a static site to Drupal, using different URL's - and this was an authority site with about 5,000-6,000 visitors each month. (Judo Book Reviews)

You may have pages that are indexed in the SERPS, and by removing those pages, visitors will get the dreaded 404 page. Rank isn't the issue - it's whether or not you're getting traffic to those pages... You can have PR0 pages that are bringing in a boatload of traffic, and you can have higher ranked pages that bring in little to no traffic.

There are two ways to handle it, if you are using Wordpress... one plugin will automatically create 301 redirects, and the other plugin will change your 404 page to go to the most closely associated page.

I can't recommend a specific Wordpress plugin, but I'm sure others will chime in.

If it's not a Wordpress site, good luck! (With a static site, you can do 301 redirects in your htaccess file - just Google the topic for directions)

P.S. Just saw your response that you get virtually no traffic - in that case, there's no downside, go for it! Just think about it carefully, and Google "Website Silo" if the term isn't familiar to you before beginning.

This is a static site. Sleep Help For You - SLEEP HELP 4-U

One of the areas I'm concerned about is the snoring categories.
If I leave these pages as is and create new pages with different keywords but very much the same content (not duplicate, just similar) won't it appear very cluttered and disorganized?
