I have pretty much automated most parts of my online business. As I am focusing on my traffic generation next, I recognize that to automate this area, SEO is essential. I would like to learn some basic SEO techniques and if there is a simple yet easy to understand, effective guide, I would appreciate. Please recommend. I am new to SEO but I am not new to IM.... |

| SEO is a tough nut to crack because everyone considers themselves an expert on it. From what I've seen, google really likes it when your url, title, headings and bolded text match up with some sort of keyword phrase or common keyword. What's more, having sites with similiar keywords link to you is often more important than the SEO on your own page. People tend to look at optimizing their own pages, but my strategy has been to let the optimization of other sites do my work for me. Getting guest posts published on major sites in my niche, such as problogger.net, have given me incredible amounts of google juice. If problogger says I rank for blogging than guess what, it is going to happen regardless of whether my site is about oranges or blogs. Sure you should work on making sure that you get all the little things right on your site, but don't overlook backlinking and getting major players in your niche to link to you. |

I am not aware of a good basic guide but in a nutshell, you want to focus on two things: 1. On Page Optimization (Keyword, etc) 2. Off Page Optimization This is by far, the most important thing. You want other websites and blogs to link to you. Not just any websites, buy high page rank websites. This is like a vote in Google for your site. To get other sites to link to you, there are many different things you can do. You can join forums, comment on blogs, write articles, and much, much more. There is a lot more to it, but this is a start for you. |

I've found that if you look up something like The Top 10 SEO Basics or something similar. Any simple list of dos and don't will suffice. Then all you have to do is write normally, with the reader in mind, and the SEO pretty much takes care of itself. This goes for keyword research too. If you take a subject and cover it comprehensively with your articles and blogs posts then you will naturally choose the best keywords. By all means check them with a keyword tool, or use such a tool to help focus your attention but don't massively stress out about getting the magical combination of words that drive visitors in their tens of thousands to your site. It is in the interests of an SEO company to talk up the mystery of SEO but I don't think it is all that difficult. |

Off page optimization. This method includes directory submission, article writing and submission, social bookmarking, blog commenting, forum posting and many more.

Quality is most important when it comes to your website. Without high quality content, you would not earn as much money nor as much traffic. Building a great source of backlinks, submitting to directories, social bookmarking, and social media also help with your SEO. There are a lot of free guides online that show you the basics, but they are kind of scattered around.
