Hi all. Something strange is going on with google. I have managed to rank a site on google.com and it is on page 1. If I search for the same term on google.co.uk its on page 8? I am using a free proxy server to connect to google so my personal search results wont interfere. Are there any free web based, or mac based tools which i could used to keep track of where my sites are ranking without searching for them through a proxy server? No doubt others have had this problem, but its beginning to drive me a little crazy |

Hmmm thanks for the advice guys, but im still ranking page 1 on google.com and page 8 on google.co.uk I even had a friend search and she came back with the same results. I then had a friend in a different country try and exactly the same... any idea how I can rank it on page 1 for both .com and .co.uk? This is the first site I have managed to get to page 1, so im unsure if this is just a common problem, or unique to me? |

| It's useless to use a proxy when checking your SERP rank. The reason it's useless is Google will still take the ISP of the proxy & use the GEO location to serve up search results. If your in LA & the proxy is in Miami, your going to get local search results based on an ISP from Miami. All those 3rd party links above will give you the same results as If your running a proxy (ISP GEO location), so not really any help. The best you will get is to run your search in Google Chrome Incognito (or similar). |

I just ran a search in Google Chrome in Incognito mode and still the same. Im going to try the Webmaster tools now and have a little dig around see what I can find. Maybe you guys could do a search and see what results you get? The search is Merthyr Tydfil Builders and my website is merthyrtydfilbuilders . com Same thing with Merthyr Tydfil Plumbers and my website is merthyrtydfilplumbers . com Both show un in Incognito mode on page 1 for google . com but not for . co.uk |

I have always figured that google also ranked according to where your incoming links are coming from...IE if a site is linking you and they are located in the UK and not in the US and they are listed as targeting the UK, then you would get more push in the UK from that site then on the other datacenters.... | |

I'm in the USA, running a fresh browser session & Chrome Incognito for each individual search: Google US search. 1) merthyr tydfil builders (position #6, page #1) 2) merthyr tydfil plumbers (position #6, page #1) [note] Both results have a lot of Google Place links above them Google UK search from US: 1) merthyr tydfil builders (position #2, page #8) 2) merthyr tydfil plumbers (position #1, page #5) Quote:

Thanks Yukon. Are you from the Yukon in Canada? If so I did a year of my Degree in Trent, Peterborough Ontario with a girl from the Yukon ![]() My business model is to rent these sites out to local businesses. Obviously I would like to get the sites to rank higher than the google places. Would it be worth me creating a google place for my address, for "your building business here" and then rent that out as part of the package? Im unsure how google places work when changing information such as address and telephone number etc. Iv gone into webmaster tools and changed the GEO to target UK users, so Im hoping this is going to fix the issue of different ranking on .co.uk and .com Any other ideas on how I could get it to rank higher on the .co.uk? |
