Default Backlink Building?

For months I've used automated software to build backlinks and never really worried to much about natural building.

Looking for some advice on natural backlink building. A few questions:

1) How many should I be doing per day to ensure my SERP don't drop? What number is safe?

2) Where are the best place to gain backlinks?
- High PR blog commenting
- High PR forum posting and profile links
- Directories
- Social Bookmarking

^^ Are there any other things I can do to gain backlinks? Usually I like to use sites that are high priority with Google, but they can be difficult to find and often abused.

3) Should I build links daily? weekly?

I've always took the quick option out, and have a shed load of automation tools, but very limited success. I've had more success with natural approaches and want to continue and develop that.

Thanks.

For example your site is year old,Then you can build links weekly say some 100-200 good links from good blog comments or profile links or forum posting. And Mainly you need to update your site often as well.If your site is new then do build backlinks daily say 50-100 atleast that will help and maintain ranking.

Hi,

I use a combination of back-linking methods. But the one I like most is using article marketing. I target certain keywords for my articles and then post them to different article directories.

This method serves both for search engine optimization and also driving traffic to my websites.

100 backlinks a day pointing to your site is too much.

Talinn, that is all a matter of perspective. 100 links a day to facebook is nothing, 100 links a day to a 1 page website that only went live last week and has 0 traffic is probably too much.
I have always said, don't worry about hitting any targets, making sure you get x number a day, just be natural in your efforts and you will be rewarded.

The first step in building backlinks is to find the places from which you can get quality backlinks. A valuable assistant in this process is the Backlink Builder tool. When you enter the keywords of your choice, the Backlink Builder tool gives you a list of sites where you can post an article, message, posting, or simply a backlink to your site. After you have the list of potential backlink partners, it is up to you to visit each of the sites and post your content with the backlink to your site in it.

I think you should forget about numbers, and instead concentrate on regular backlinks from lots of different sources. In addition to your list there, I would add the following:-

-Press release submission(free and/or paid)
-RSS feed submission(Automated submission is fine here, and you'll reap the benefits indefinitely)
-Web 2.0(Squidoo, Hubpages, Wetpaint etc.)
-Article submission(good quality articles to good quality directories)

Also, are you updating your content on your site regularly? Keeping things fresh can help move your site up too.

I really wish people wouldn't make statements like that, because it isn't true. The search engines index any kind of backlinks gradually, not all at once. I believe in regular, varied and consistent backlink building. 100 a day is fine. But like I said in the beginning of this post, I don't think the actual number built daily/weekly/monthly or whatever should be a main concern.

From what I've read I wouldn't do more than 50 per day. Even 30-40 is probably fine and make sure they are from multiple sources.

There is no set number or resource of links you should use. The only thing you need to worry about is keeping things regular and varied. As another posted mentioned the search engines are not going to find your links all at once (unless you ping them which I don't recommend). Let them find the links naturally over time, it will look a lot more natural.

Also try and get some traffic running to the site and a few pieces of fresh content over the first few weeks. As for the number of links you should be trying to build, it depends on the age of your site, the competition, etc. As long as you keep a nice regular amount of backlinking happening then anything above that will not stand out quite as much since you are already getting regular links.

All this you should do randomly, and try not to buy any backlinks, make them on your own!
Also if backlink is made from a website which is about something else that you website, you WILL BE DROPPING DOWN YOU KEYWORD SEO! I have tested all this on myself, so beware!

There is no formula regarding the rate of creating backlinks to a web site. What we have to do is keeping the process as a natural one. Old site means, it has a reputation and popularity. So making 1000 backlinks per day won't be a issue.
So you better to do testing and see effect on web site. Then you can decide the number of backlinks per day

Quickly imagine a world where this is true, everybody would be building backlings for their competitors on unrelated sites to make their competitors drop in the rankings, this is a simple example, but its very true.

When backlinking occurs naturally, ie, people link to your site because they like it, a great deal of them will link to your site from another relevant site but its not restricted to just that. Nothing stops someone from linking to a site from a different niche.

Myth busted!!!

There is no set number of links that you can get per day.

For best results, you want your results to look natural to Google. What is natural? Well think of what a popular site's natural links would look like. They would have some links from web 2.0 sites, they would have links from social bookmarking sites, they would have links from video sites, they would have links from social media sites... you get the idea.

This is what you want your link strategy to mimic. Vary the kinds of links you get and vary the amount that you get each week and you'll get the best results.
