Hey, I've been having some problems with my new domain as google can't seem to pick up the sitemap and then even when it does pick it up it won't index my pages properly, the settings are identical to that of other sites however my other sites get indexed fine (but they are with a different hosting account). So I'm going to experiment by switching my hosting to hostgater (it's with godaddy at the moment) - how do I switch exactly? It is simply a case of going into the FTP and copying all the files to the new server? (I've never done this before you see) |

If you have a database driven site, then you have to move the database also and configure it on the new host. If not, most likely, it is a matter of just moving the files to the public_html folder on hostgator.

I have hostgator shared hosting, all I can say is I've never once had a problem that was their fault. I messed up one of my own sites once & the live support chat talked me through how to fix my database (less than 15 min.). Use the live chat (top right side of their website) before buying the hosting at hostgator, I did. I got my money worth out of the live support before ever buying any hosting from them, lol. I'm sure they were thinking is this guy done with the questions yet (that's what I would have been thinking, lol), but they were very professional during the whole chat. |

That's good, it's really frustrating because my sites always get indexed really fast and now this one just isn't getting indexed and i'm having problems from inside webmasters saying that the sitemap can't be downloaded and stuff... the settings on my site are identical and I use the xml sitemaps plugin that I have on all my other sites, so frustrating all I can think of is a host problem but obviously godaddy deny that! - I'll use the chat function with hostgater to see what they think |

yeah I use the wordpress plugin, I submitted sitemap.xml and then the plugin submitted sitemap.xml.gz - I initially got a red cross and now it's green but when I update it often goes back to a red cross and the pages arn't being indexed. The domain is new, so maybe it's just because its new but I've never had any issues before and it is very frustrating at the moment |

If your running the gzip version (.gz) & you paste that into your browser you should be getting a prompt to download the zip file, does that happen? The new site doesn't matter, it should still work. PM me If you want me to have a look, If not I understand, |

file extension / mime type configuration If you are one an Apache server you can probably fix it through .htacces ask your webhost if unsure What's the URL(s) of your sitemap file(s)? |

I'd have to post multiple shots lol but instead i'll list my settings (same settings that work fine on all my other blogs) write normal xml file - ticked write a gzipped file - ticked rebuild if u change mode - ticked enable manual sitemap building via GET request - unticked Notify bing, google, ask - ticked build sitemap in the background - ticked Location of sitemap = automation detection at /sitemap.xml After that it's just my frequences and prioties and stuff, can't imagine that does anything. |

I have the same plugin settings on my own sites (they work with GWT). Are you sure the Google site verification is 100% correct in your sites source code? I'm not sure If that matters? |

yepp all verified, it's an absolute myth lol, I've emailed godaddy again explained the problem and then I'm going to switch to hostgator if it doesn't get sorted, they seem to think I won't have any issues with them so we'll wait and see I guess lol
