Default Two of my Adsense sites says "Malware Detected!" - What on earth does this mean?

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling a bit weirded out right now. Today, I noticed that I had an abysmally low Adsense click through rate, and had a look at one of my small sites. When I tried to go there, I get a big "Malware Detected!" warning and the following message:

(My Site) contains content from euy0.co.cc, a site known to distribute malware. Your computer might catch a virus if you visit this site.
Google has found malicious software may be installed onto your computer if you proceed. If you've visited this site in the past or you trust this site, it's possible that it has just recently been compromised by a hacker. You should not proceed, and perhaps try again tomorrow or go somewhere else.
We have already notified euy0.co.cc that we found malware on the site. For more about the problems found on euy0.co.cc, visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page.

And the same thing on another of my sites; these sites are small, but two of my most profitable. Forgive me for asking, but what the is going on?!

I have nothing to do with euy0.co.cc or have even heard of it. I also have no software on those sites, only content and Adsense.

I suppose this explains why I'm getting almost no Adsense clicks today?

Has this happened to anyone before, and what course of action would you suggest?

Really appreciate your help!

I know previously this has happened to me if I had cloaked links on my site.

Do you have any cloaked links on your site?

Hi Rob,

I believe on one of the sites I have some cloaked affiliate links - but the others, definitely not. Just checking, this seems to have affected almost every one of my Adsense sites. This is not cool. Anyone else?

Cheers

It can be a real sign that your site has been hacked.

Did you read the help articles provided by Google?

You immediately need to go to google webmaster and add your site if you didn't than and it that they will mention you why is your website is malware ans so on..

May the external link what you have provided is malware site and for that reason they are saying it.

I had the same case and I have solved it through google webmaster..

I hope this helps..

Malware detected means that Google have detected malware on your site.

Ask your hosting company to look into the matter, they should be able to determine the cause and clean your site.

After that visit the webmaster link above in Peggys post, to request Google to review your site and remove the malware detected warning.

I had this on one of my sites a few months ago, and after carrying out the steps above the site was back online after 48hrs.

An iframe has probably been injected into one of your pages that points to a malware site.

If you website is fairly small, download all the files to your local PC into a brand new folder and do a search for iframe and a search for euy0.co.cc hopefully the rogue page will become apparent.

Only then once you have fixed it should you go to google webmaster tools malware section and request a re-visit.

My websites on Bluehost shared server were once hacked. They told that i had to fix it by myself and left me in the dark. I think that whole server was hacked which they refuted. That is why i left them.

Going thru this annoyance right now on one of my small niche sites, it's been down since Tues. Hosting confirmed the site is clean, now I'm waiting for Google to review it. I submitted the review on Wed and still haven't been re-scanned, so I submitted another one today.

Wow, a surprisingly fast outpouring of replies. Thank you all so much!

I have been in touch with the hosting company. All I could do was open a ticket with their security department; now I have to wait for them to respond. If I open more tickets with them, I probably end up delaying the process, so I have to be patient with them.

Nonny, thank you for that "cleaning your site" link. I wasn't aware of that.

It's interesting - one of my Adsense sites isn't affected, and is still serving ads.

Fortunately, a site I have (completely non Internet Marketing/non-monetized) I built for a client is fine...but I can't have this messing with my Adsense account or earnings for long.

Okay - so let me get the process straight:

1. Notify my hosting company's security department. Check!

2. Make sure the site(s) are clean.

3. Notify Google through webmaster tools.

Correct? Please let me know if I'm missing something, or if you all have any more thoughts.

Thanks everyone!

***Just had another thought:***

If my hosting company takes too long to respond, would it be advisable to simply go to my host's file manager, copy the content (the written content of the site, which isn't a big deal because the sites are small), and scrap everything on those domains, then contact Webmaster tools, explaining that I scrapped the sites and will rebuild them - but ask them to please remove the malware warnings?

Would really like to hear your thoughts about this.

Thanks a ton.

it happened to several of my sites. If you look in the head o your pages, you'll find some code that doesn't belong there.

I had to take the infected sites down, remove the code, re-upload the files and change my password on my hosting account.

Thanks for letting me know that, Carl. Doesn't really make it any more fun, but it's good to know this has happened to others before and they were okay.

Go to the page with the problem & look at the Google cache.

Replace yourdomain with your actual site/page url:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:www.yourdomain.com&strip=1

Look at the header & footer to see If your site has any links that don't belong to your site.

I posted about hacked Wordpress themes a few months back, most times it's the Wordpress theme that your running, If so, your site wasn't hacked, your theme was hacked before you ever installed.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look closer at the two last replies; my hosting said they found a bunch of sketchy code in there and all but one site is fixed, it seems. Making sure everything (WP, plugins, etc.) is up to date. Goodnight all, have to sleep. Thanks kindly to every one of you who has replied!

look down the very bottom of the page after the < /html> sign for a line of code.
If it is a wordpress site you will have to go into 3 files in your Cpanel and delete them.

1. do you use FTP to upload sites?
2. Is your log in details anywhere on your desktop or C drive
3. change your password immediately

?

Hello all,

It appears that the problem is resolved. The hosting company security department found and removed the malicious code, and with recrawl of the remaining afflicted site, it shows up clean in the search engines and via direct access.

Yes, the passwords are getting changed!

To Craig McPherson, no, I didn't use FTP for any files, nor store login details on the hard drive or desktop...but I'm changing those details regardless.

To all: When I had a site recrawled, it found an iframe linking to the forum of a domain associated with malware/badware.

I would like to say thank you to every single person who responded in this thread. I know it's happened before to people, but it's a bit of a shock and I really appreciate the help you all provided!

Best Regards to you all.
