Hi guys, My first Google Sniper site ranked at #46 for the main keyword phrase when it first appeared on Google and my linked Youtube video ranked at #8 on Youtube for the main keyword phrase. Although I realise this is not the ideal positioning for the main site, I felt a sense of satisfaction at my first foray into the world of IM and that I would be able to improve this ranking with back-linking. Much to my dismay when I checked my ranking the next morning my site had dropped to rank #300. After much head scratching and cursing I found that one of my blog posts was at rank #32. This set off the alarm bells as I remembered George saying how Google penalises duplicate content. Even though I have "Use no Index" checked for archives and categories in the All In One SEO plugin it seems Google has still indexed my categories. So firstly guys am I on the right track here? Secondly how come Google would still index my categories when I checked "Use no Index"? and thirdly Can I salvage this site or do I just have to chalk it up to experience and move on to the next site? Thanks for any help in advance guys. |

I'm in the same situation as you except my post is ranked a lot higher than main website, both are ranked fairly good but looking for an answer.. a free bump.

Ok I just had a brain fart. Perhaps the fact that i filled out the All In One SEO details for every post has caused Google to index them regardless of the fact I checked "No Indexing" I have just noticed at the bottom of each post there is a check box that allows you to "disable on this page/post". So should I only fill out the All In One SEO details for the site itself and not the individual posts? |

The "Google Dance" lol. That's the first I've heard of that one. Well overnight Google danced me straight out the back door because I am now not even in the top 500. Considering my keywords are my blog title looks like I am getting the "Highland Fling" lol.

Do not fret, it will almost certainly be back. Challenge yourself to just not look at the rankings for 4 or 5 days, a week, and just concentrate on improving the site, promoting etc. I would say changes are better than 95% it'll be back at least where it was, and probably better. It takes some nerve the first few times you do this, but now I actually WELCOME it when my site disappears down to like no. 300 because I know Google is reassessing it and possibly going to bring it back in at a higher ranking. P.S. It's very common to overanalyse and think that little tweaks you did are responsible for big changes in rankings but in reality that is rarely the case, from what I have seen. |

Don't panic, your site is just Google dancing. Right now, a new site I finished setting last weeks that ranked #8 yesterday was danced off by Google totally from SERPs this morning, don't worry it will come around

Thanks guys your feedback is much appreciated. Yes it is so easy to over analyze and start questioning every thing you have done. Guess it's time to just have a beer and chill lol.

(1) Dance: Keep building/promoting while Google reviews your content relevance for the next few weeks. (2) 100+ drop: Keep building/promoting while Google reviews your content relevance for the next few months. Which one happened? You won't know until you're well passed #1. Distract yourself by working on site #2 while you keep adding to site #1. Good luck! Great2bme |

Well, using the Google Sniper technique, you shouldn't have to even build links in order to rank. When you build links you're going to fluctuate in the rankings before coming back stronger.

To add what others have said - a new exact match domain ranks very well at first and then drops off. As long as your site is indexed (try site: domain.com in google) then you're ok. So what you're seeing is common. Just keep throwing links at it. |

Thanks again guys. Just a quick update. My site has bounced back and is now ranking at 22. I will work on my next site and just observe this one for the moment. If it hasn't moved up to page one after a couple of weeks I will put some more work into back linking. Cheers.

I just finished creating my first sniper site late this morning and it is on page 6 of the results. I have already backlinked and pinged my site so I'm not sure what else I can do, if anything at all, to make it climb the ranks. I guess patience is key, eh? EDIT - No relation to the OP that I know of lol |
