Default Sitemaps & Google

I own a website which is marketed by another company. It is a new site ( approx 3 weeks old ) and I am keen to get the site optimized ASAP. I have suggested to them ( the company who manage/market the website ) to incorporate a Sitemap which I have created. However they inform me that:

"most search engines(including Google) use spiders to retrieve site pages and as we link all pages via navigation buttons I don't really see the point in a site map page"

Are they right?

You're pages will most likely get crawled and indexed if you have a good internal linking structure, but obviously it never hurts to submit a sitemap.

While they may be right, submitting a sitemap will remove any doubt that the search engines are aware of all of the pages on your website. In other words, I highly recommend that you encourage them to submit a sitemap for your website. Only positive result can come about from doing this.

You may also look into creating a HTML sitemap that highlights all important sections and then link that from all places.

Sitemaps are not just for SEs, they're for users too.
If this is a WordPress site, check out Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for WordPress
Among the features is the option to automatically notify Ask.com, Google, Bing and YAHOO about changes via ping.
If sitemaps were not important then why would Google include them in the webmaster tools?
