1, On-Site - Applying SEO best practices to the structure of your site and targeting useful keywords. 2, Off-Site - Mainly link building Equipped with that, can you please now tell us what you mean by "SEOing"?

Do you have a backlink strategy? If so, I'd hold off on implementing any major backlinking stuff until you get your site done. In the meantime you can do onsite seo, and build some backlinks slowly. If you're going to be implementing a major strategy(mass article submissions, directory submissions, social bookmarking etc.) then hold off until maybe 85-90% complete at the earliest. I'd suspect without content, you won't get too high anyways. |

I guess this was a silly question but SEO is so foreign to me.. Any recomendations on what I should be doing while building my site which is already indexed through backlinks.. So I guess doing both but how long will it take google to update my content.

How fast will Google update your site in the index? Depends on how often the spiders are visiting you. If you have a site that you are consistently updating, it is usually pretty quick. You can use a ping service to try and expedite but people place too much emphasis on getting content indexed quickly. (I just use my Twitter account) Your content needs to be indexed in order to rank but that is merely the first step. If your content is worthy of ranking, it will be indexed. Also worth noting, one of my favorite SEO's wrote a blog post on developing a niche website. :-) http://jonathanbeaton.com/creating-a-niche-website/

The thing I want to ask here is, how important is link building? and is directory submission out of fashion, if not is it useful?

Since you have the majority of it completed it shouldn't matter too much. Just finish up your site and move onto more SEO.

I would say that it would depend on your types of links. If you are using low volume profile links then by all means get to it. They take forever to get indexed that by the time they got there your site would be done.

per your title...i'd say SEO starts with your website. . while you're building your site, be optimizing along the way, right from the beginning. |
