Default Adword Help Plz:)

Warriors,

I'm just starting to setup my adword account for my new product but I'm a little bit lost as to how many keywords I should target to begin with.

I'm in the personal finance niche. Does anyone have a general rule of thumb to start out with? Maybe choosing 5 target keywords and then having like 15-30 keyword branches off each main? Then for the actual ads themselves, how many do you suggest?

Sorry to sound like a complete noob, but any advise would be appreciated

Thanks
Brandon

Just a quick question to throw in myself if you don't mind Brandon Lam, I'm not looking to thread jack.

Aren't personal finance related keyword extremely expensive to bid on?

I would start with one keyword and one ad for that keyword. See how it goes.

You do not want too much in the beginning. Once you can handle one keyword and one ad, set up the next keyword with an ad for that keywords.

Any tool recommendations to find cheaper secondary keywords? I've now noticed the finance niche has some pretty expensive main key words like "how to save money" "ways to save money" etc.

I use one keyword phrase per ad.

It makes it easier to get a great quality score if you keyword is in your ad title and/or body and your landing page.

Google will also highlight you keyword in the ad if it matest the users search term. This can help improve your click through rate and work toward lowering your bid and still maintain your ad placement

I always try to find relevant long-tail terms which don't much competition so are very cheap yet still relevant traffic. Find a bunch of these and target a few main terms which may charge more and you will have a good range of terms.

Brandon:

Another options is to just use a lot of keywords or keyword phrases. Just try to make them as relevant to your landing page as possible. Most of them will not meet the minimum bid requirements to be on the first page, but you'll still get impressions and clicks. Enable the Display Network and those same keywords that have the warning message will still work on the display network.

Looking into Micronichefinder. Looks like the exact tool I need to find cheaper alternative keywords and long tail phrases.

It is much harder to get a group of keywords to have a high quality score for a single landing page.

You will do better with one keyword per ad and getting the keyword in your ad title/body and optimize your landing page for the keyword as well.
