How to fight spam?

Hey, i got over 1000 comments overnight and all from same person! there is no url in the url field, always different name, e-mail and ip. the message is different too, but always a link in it, affiliate link. no backlink, just click here, etc...

every time i delete a comment, there is a new one made.

how can i stop it?

i dont want to close comments, because there may be some people who really want to ask something or share something.

Change your settings so that comments must be moderator approved.

There are captcha plugins you can use so that commenters have to signup and then sign in before they are comment. I use the re-Captcha one and it has reduced the spam to management levels.

i have done that, im not auto-approving them...but still those comments keep coming. by the time i post that thread, there is 81 spam comments on my blog

is there any way to fight?

i installed captcha plugin where you have to move some pieces of pictures to make a big picture. and it seems the spam has stopped.

nothing can stop spam if spammers pay attention on your site. you can only delete again and again, but you can never stop.

If you're using wordpress, a good way to fight spam is by using akismet
