Multiple keyword anchor texts backlinks from 1 site

What is the opinion on having multiple backlinks from one site with different keywords - on the same page or otherwise?

For example an article author box with 2 backlinks - to pages website.c0m/page1 and website.c0m/page2 - with 2 different anchor texts.

Or even something like, multiple article submissions to the same directory, with a backlink going to the same site on each. Waste of time?

I guess this is probably too hard to even test, but does anyone have any idea?
