I however would always prefer a .org as I often associate .info with low quality sites.

It depends on your niche and your career strategy. If you have a very specific niche with very few, for example, 100, search per day, .info is enough, but if you want to build something big, .org might be better. As to strategy, their are many guys now doing miro niche marketing, they own 100+ or even 200+ websites, if you're one of them, I guess you will prefer .info. |

This is 2011, not 1997. People are very used to different domain extensions. dot tv, dot biz, dot us, dot net, dot whatever. And we are talking SEO, not feelings. .info has nothing to do with low quality sites. I guess we have never seen low quality dot coms. It has been discussed to death and people still do SEO by feelings, not facts. Paul

.com .net .org all these rank well compared to other extensions given that same amount of SEO has been done. Thus .org is the best choice for you than .info. And remember .info is cheap for the first year only! |

i have never read anywhere that suggests using .info for a site that you plan to seo optimize. i tnink .info sites are ok if you are using non-seo traffic methods to drive people to the site where you either collect emails and/or have monetized with a cpa offer. i would also check the top 20 results in google for your targeted keywords, see if any .info sites are ranked |

While you can easily rank both, I prefer to have .org over .info. info domains seem spammy and cheap

This thread has morphed into complete BS. Google could care less what extension you have. Period. They don't value a dot com over a dot info or anything else, except some country specific extensions. There is no SEO benefit for a dot com. We are, after all, talking about SEO! Not feelings you may have! Just do a search for pagerank, or pagerank checker, or some variation. Then talk bout how spammy the site that gets #1 is. You people seriously need to get a grip on reality. SEO by feelings is not SEO. The google algorithm has no human feelings. Paul |

Depends on the purpose of the site also. For a tiny mini niche site the price being a lot cheaper might make the .info more appropriate. Making a big site with a lot of content though = getting a .com or in this case .org imo. Its not for the seo but for the visitors when you promote the site and build trust. |

The only 100% truth of any of this is that not one single person here knows anything for sure. There are compelling arguments for the extension meaning absolutely nothing and there are compelling arguments for .com/.net/.org over a .info. As for feelings etc... Unless you're privy to some algo knowledge that noone else is than ya don't really KNOW ****. You've got your feelings just as everyone else does. You're right in that you have to be as analytical as possible, test, test and test again. But in the end sometimes you just have to trust your gut. My gut says .org |

I'm an Internet dino and also somewhat of a purist, so take my words for what they're worth (what follows is all In My Humble Opinion). I have always gone with .com for sites that I intend to make money with, because that's the extension that everyone will think of first. If your site ever takes off and becomes BIG, and it's .info or .org, word of mouth references to the site might have some problems. Yes, those other extensions are now more accepted than they used to be, but people searching for something on a search engine or by manually typing a URL into their browser's address bar still by and large think of .com first, when looking for a product or company. To me, .info looks like the site creator was thinking, "well gee, I couldn't get the .com I wanted, so I won't mind being mistaken for the .com version of my site whose site is much older and more accepted in that name slot." I would much rather get a .com, which will in the vast majority of cases be a totally unique name that isn't likely to be confused with a "twin" using another extension. Also, and here is the serious purist in me -- .org was originally intended to be only for nonprofits. It ended up being opened up to anyone for any type of site, but I still associate most .orgs with either charities or church websites or nonprofit organizations. I get a bit miffed to see one with a blatant profit motive and sales pitch in it. But maybe I'm in the minority in this day and age. |

I have personally used dot org with good results. With the info sites I find it takes about 3 4 months before the sites start to get decent traffic, so if you don't mind waiting and want to save money on domain names you can choose this method.

It does not matter whether if you use .info or .org as both are the same in SEO if they were optimised the same. .com is better because of perception. Most people will automatically use .com at the enter of a domain if they remembered a name of a site but forgot the extension. Which country are you marketing your product too? If it is internationally then .org or .info does not make a difference. If the product is aimed at people within your own country then use your country extension. Just my opinion. BTW, people will not see many .info websites in search results because it is not a popular extension and you will see a lot of .com because it is the most popular. |

If you're going to use SEO then for sure the .org! Just do a search for a competitive term and see if there's any .info on the 1st pages... If they ranked well you should see some sites on the top pages, even if there much less people using them. |
