Default ouch!! had a google slap! ........... what to do now?

I know i know it was my mistake i copied some small piece of content from wikipedia as reference and traffic went from 100 visitors daily to zero.

The site is in google's index though

I have corrected the mistake and changed the content right away and updated the site. I created new site map and submitted in google also.

I just hope that the traffic comes back as soon as possible
This site was making me good money and i have worked hard on it.

By the way most of the content is original and i am redoing anything that might be similar to elsewhere on the internet.

My question is
What should i expect in coming days. I am constantly building backlinks. What are the chances of getting good reputation back again?

It could have been a coincidence.

I find that a new site tends to rank well quickly, but only for a short while. You need good backlinks to remain ranked in the longer term.

It is possible that you were sandboxeds, and then it is just a waiting game.

Keep creating great content and find ways to get free traffic that don't rely on search engines, such as guest blogging.

Good luck

it was not a very new site.
It is around 8 months old and was consistently on 11-12 position.

Would like to hear fellow warriors experiences

Hi priyankeshu

I had actually read about a similar circumstance about two weeks ago. Once the person removed the duplicate content, their rankings rebounded the next time that their site was cached by Google.

Hi priyankeshu,

First, let me correct your improper terminology, the "Google Slap" is a term coined to express the procedure of a systematic across-the-board lowering of keyword quality scores in an AdWords campaign. Since this IS a forum for AdWords we should try to bear that in mind.

Now to the meat of your question, You are free to copy content from Wikipedia provided you properly cite your source:
Quote:
You are free:
  • to Share—to copy, distribute and transmit the work, and
  • to Remix—to adapt the work
Under the following conditions:
  • Attribution—You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work.)
  • Share Alike—If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same, similar or a compatible license.
With the understanding that:
  • Waiver—Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.
  • Other Rights—In no way are any of the following rights affected by the license:
    • your fair dealing or fair use rights;
    • the author's moral rights; and
    • rights other persons may have either in the work itself or in how the work is used, such as publicity or privacy rights.
  • Notice—For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. The best way to do that is with a link to Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0
Source: Wikipedia:Text of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Improper use of the licence provided by Wikipedia is a copyright violation, next time cite your source.

Having said that I would guess that your drop in rankings had little or nothing to do with the improper attribution of your copied content. More likely is that your page content, being new, has not yet had time to earn the higher rankings you seek. Yes, I know that the page was previously ranking, but you did change the content, right? So now it is viewed as a totally new content. In time, if you have restored the old content, or properly optimized your new content, you may see your rankings return.
