Where the heck did my site go?

So I had a website, with a PR4, ranked in the #2 position in Google for over a year. I recently checked it, and it has vanished. I do see that other pages from the site are indeed indexed.

Now I'm not a SEO expert, but what the heck has happened? How can I get it back into the same position?

Google slap?

It does seem strange that it would happen after being on top for so long. My guess is that this is temporary. I had a site that went away from the first page for 3 months but it did come back. I think it was due to shady link bulding.

Could be a temporary slap that has something to do with the recent algo update.

Yeah, very strange. Hopefully it will pop back up. As I said, there are other pages of the site indexed, and in fact, I did find that main page indexed as well when just typing it in...but it just lost all ranking.
