Default Is It Good To Target Less Common Search Terms?

I don't fully understand how this works with optimizing your site for certain keywords. For example, the most searched for keyword when people google a web hosting company is the word, "hosting". That word is also the most optimized keyword for hosting companies and it is more expensive to buy adsense for it.

Am I thinking wrong to stay away from "hosting" and try to optimize my site for a less common keyword like "host", "web host" or "web server"? I figured my site would have a higher rank when people use these less common search terms than I would if I optimized for the more common search terms like "hosting" that have so much competition, I have no chance to show up on the first page.

Thanks for your help.

Yes it is good to target less common search term. For the instance of hosting...it be in a page on any type of hosting, like a party. If you want to optimize a page you should break down the keywords. The word may get less monthly searches but the traffic should be more targeted.

Example:

hosting
web hosting
cheap web hosting
cheap web hosting company
cheap web hosting company for beginners

Just an example off the top of my head....You see how each one gets a little more specific. You should target what are known as "long tail" keywords, especially if you are just starting out. For more information on long tail keywords, just do a google search similar to "long tail keyword article" and you can find more than enough information to get an understanding.

when your target is less common search term then will be easier with SEO.
of course if you have enough time and money (advantage ) you better target to the most searched keyword
