Hey everyone, I know the question im about to ask is pretty basic in the world of SEO and I should know this one. Now I have a hunch of the correct answer but i'm still not 100%. ![]() Here's the question: Let's say you search a term (keyword analysis) to find the amount of backlinks for the top 10 results and ALL the websites are pointing to product pages not the actual main website for example: tirerack dot com/products/rainwipers/xxxx | 66 Backlinks | 3000 Backlinks Total (to main site: tirerack dot com) Now do you have to get over 66+ backlinks to rank over it (given that you have good bl's) or do you have to get over 3000+ backlinks. Look forward to seeing the answer! Thanks! |

Well search engines rank by page, so really you only need the 66 links. However if you are trying to do that you need to ensure your links are of higher quality than theres. Also, because the domain as a whole has 3000 backlinks, you will want to send backlinks to other parts of your site. |

Its also not quite as exact as that, if your backlinks are higher quality than the other site, you may be able to outrank them with fewer backlinks. However if yours are lower quality it may take more. Onpage SEO place its part too. But essentially yeah, you just have to beat that page not the whole site - thought the fact that they have more links to their site overall will likely give them more "authority" that will be passed to their individual pages if the internal linking structure of their website is any good. |
