but you might want to read this. (No i am not selling anything, just a blog entry ).

This is about the astonishing finding that up to 50% of web traffic can be coming from never before used search terms and phrases (long tail keywords included of course).

This has big ramifications for SEO and for you as a webmaster.

First, forget any keyword research and "optimizing" since those keywords are not to be found ANYWHERE.

Only good and longer content is able to "trigger" those keywords and key phrases...therefore making your site pop up for many searches in Google where you would have never guessed before.

Shows nicely why you want content, content and even more content on your sites.

And it shows why a site with plenty of long articles has a BIG advantage over a site with 3 tiny 350 words articles...i mean you can do the math? CONTENT == Traffic!

LOL, Please tell me you don't really believe that!

My sites eat article sites in the SERPs everyday, my max on-page text is less than 10 words per page. Been doing this for a few years without any problem.

Yes of course i believe that...would you deny believing in LSI keywords?

Uhm..by the way i am not talking about "article sites"...what is an article site anyway? I am simply saying you rank for many keywords and SEARCHES if you have longer articles...and 40% - 50% of searches *are* from long tail phrases.

Yes of course, i also have sites with "reviews" which are a max of 5 lines or so....but needless to say you wont rank for many long-tails with such short articles.

It's really the case, i have sites where 40%-50% of ALL traffic is coming from such long tail keywords DESPITE the fact that the main keyword is the mostly searched one and the site is highly optimized for ONE keyword.

Doesnt change the fact there are zillions of long-tails coming in...and you WANT them, believe me

I too have sites where the main kw only brings in ~ 20% of the traffic. And yes, those are larger sites. I guess you're lucky if those phrases happen to buying kw.

Long tails are USUALLY higher converting since more targeted.
