Hi SEOers! What value does the location of my host have on my Google rankings in different English speaking countries, from my observations it seems I am more likely to rank better in the home country where my host is located even if I use a different domain suffix. Of course on the other-hand it could be simply that my country (England) has smaller and less competitive rankings than say the USA, which explains the ranking differences. Does anyone with experience of this have any of their own evidence they'd like to add? Please only reply if you have your own evidence, I'm not really interested in what others have to say when it comes to something they might of read sometime in the past. |

In my experience the host location makes a small difference but the TLD has the most effect. A client of mine was hosting his sites in Germany but one of the sites was specifically catering for the UK market. He bought a .co.uk domain and he was #1 for most of his keyphrases. He also showed up at #1 on Google Germany for "pages from Germany" when he searched for his english keyphrases.
