Default Do EZA Links Mean Anything?

I've just written around 25 articles to submit to EZA for one of my sites. Are the links in the resource box still work anything? Will they get followed/indexed by Google. Will they help with rankings and so on?

This whole new Google Algorithm thing has lost me a bit and I don't know whether to continue posting to EZA etc. I don't get an AWFUL lot of traffic from EZA, it's more for the, what were, high backlinks.

Thanks

Do they still have some value?

Yes. A link to your site is still going to be a link to your site. EZA is a good place to put one, but not for the same reasons that some put them there... but that's a different discussion.

Will they help with rankings?

Definitely. Not as much as years past. These links haven't been super for a while now anyways. Diversity is key if your goal is SEO.

Will they get followed or indexed by Google?

Hard to say. You can help the process a bit by pinging the article. You could link to it as well, although this is something I would rather do for my own sites and not a directory.

For SEO purposes, try to get links from a diverse range of article directories instead of focussing on just ezine.

For example, if you want to target 40 keywords its much better to get say 2 links from 20 different directories rather than getting 40 links from only ezine.

Diversify your links so they appear natural.

Having said all that, Matt Cutts has recently announced that backlinks from article directories count very little these days from an SEO perspective.

I don't get it, hadn't ezine articles decided to nofollow the links in the resource box?

Just went to their website to check some recent articles; none of them have a line through it signalling that it's nofollow.

im not sure if they are worth anything, i would put articles in different article directories rather than just using ezine.

Chris decided against it.

onathan & Everyone else,

This morning I removed the NOFOLLOW attribute from the table. For now, we won’t change that.

If you notice, it was near the bottom of our short-list which means it was only icing in the cake to further prove to Matt Cutts and Google that we’re not here to game Google nor let our Expert Authors do so via our platform.

We’ve got bigger issues closer to the top of the list to address this coming week.

Geena,

By adding rel=”nofollow” on all links, it proves to the search engines that our members are not here to game them.

The counter-argument to keeping the links without the nofollow attribute is that there is nothing wrong with using high-quality original articles to create search engine visibility and findability.

The current day counter-argument comes thanks to a competitor that got slapped just as hard as we did and they already had 100% nofollow links since last year… which means, it’s not a main issue.

To reiterate, this topic is off the table for discussion for now. We are leaving the links alone and will not add the nofollow attribute to the links in the resource box.

I think supposedly your first link in EZA carries the most juice then the next ones carry some juice but no where near as much.

But EZA is a good traffic producer both from creating interest in your article and the click throughs from the links in your article, and more importantly ezine articles that are well keyworded tend to rank well in google serps, so they are very useful still in most respects in my opinion.

There is a YouTube video with Matt Cutts from a couple of weeks ago talking about this subject. It will be interesting to keep an eye on.
