Default is there an ideal site linking structure?

Site linking structure is just as important as your backling structure. I have a method already, but I think it is too weak and isn't pulling maximum results. Does anybody know of a "ideal" or just really effetive site inner linking structure?

There isn't a great linking structure and if there is I don't think anyone would just tell you that.

That's a matter of opinion. You can get top rankings without caring about site structure.

Are you asking from a SEO perspective?

If so, the most effective way is if the flow of your links is unidirectional (e.g. inner page 2 links to inner page 1, but not vice versa; inner page 1 links to homepage, but not vice versa). However, this is usually difficult to do 100% of the time.

I just make sure pages link to other pages...any more thinking about it gives me a headache. BUT, if I do have an exact-match domain site that I am attempting to rank highly for one main keyword, I'll link most (if not all) of the inner pages to the home page in the content (anchor text).

Yes. I am asking from an SEO perspective. I am trying to rank my home page the highest.

Thank djems. That is a helpful site. I have been trying to hand craft, what I believe to be a effective link structure, but I'm yet to test it.
It really is a mind boggling process.

Then, you want to channel all your link juice to your homepage. The best to do this is to have a hierarchy of inner pages, so that you build link depth, as well

Sounds like a solid plan.
I'm using wordress. Any advice there?

Sorry, I have limited knowledge of Wordpress. You may be able to find a plugin to achieve this, but I wouldn't be able to recommend one.

I think I'm causing myself confusion with worpress's parent page feature and my thousands of posts I have to backlink with.

It becomes overwhelming.
Plugins were never really my thing. I'd rather do by hand and make sure its done right.

Remember that WordPress has a pretty good seo friendly structure out of the box. If you limit the number of keywords per page/post then it's easier to proceed with targeted backlinking. I like Joost's take on this and laying out the structure via a mindmap can help clarify. But no matter how "seo optimized" the structure, always give priority to the visitors experience and avoid a high bounce rate.

That is a fine piece of advice. Right now I'm trying to conjure up a visual map of my linking structure and I think my brain is goin to explode.

If you Google free mind map you'll get plenty of results. I've used Main Page - FreeMind and XMind - Mind Mapping and Storming but one of the best is Experience the power of visualization with Mindjet. MindJet is not free but they do have a free trial which might be sufficient.

I build my sites using a tightly themed silo structure and have noticed that I need fewer backlinks to get the pages to rank well.

I first learned about silo structures from Charles Heflin. You can learn more about it see an example at:

Silo Website Design

Not sure how do that effectively in Wordpress although here's a plugin that looks promising.

Anyways, hope that helps.

Did you know that.... 'Social Buzz' is now a significant ranking factor in Google? Here's how to get all the social buzz you need at the click of a button... Social Buzz Builder.

From what it looks like in the image, none of the link power is pointing towards the homepage... How does your homepage rank with that design?
