So I've found an interesting niche and keyword phrase I'd like to do some work with, and the SEO matrix on market samurai is telling me the number 1 spot has: PR - 0 Page Backlinks - 13,387 .edu/.gov BL - 6 Yahoo Directory - No Keyword in URL - No Keyword in Title - No Do I have a chance at number 1? How long would it take me would you approximate? I visited the site and it has probably 6 articles on it and isn't a very good site. What do you think? |

You haven't mentioned how many people are actually looking for the keyword term and if the keyword term is actually a buying keyword. In other words it not a keyword like free widgets. Also make sure that the keyword could not be used for something else that running up the search numbers. In other words is it an exact match. I have dog website and you might be surprised how many different things the word dog can be used for.

It's a "how to" keyword and there are affiliate products for this keyword/niche.

Yes of course you can. The current number one spot, how many backlinks that are relevant to the keyword do they have? That will play a big role. I would get maybe 20-30 edu backlinks...out optimize them with your site... |

It really depends on a lot more factors (more than I can mention here). But the fact that the keyword does not appear in the title or URL at all leads me to believe that the backlinks are also not anchored towards the keyword. It also raises a red flag on how beneficial the traffic at #1 really is if the guy at first place isn't even optimizing for the keyword. Again, I would need more info to analyze that fully. Cheers, Dave |

I think it will not be easy. But because you said that it has very little content (and a crappy one at that) then you have a chance. And i have no idea how long it would take you to take the lead. |

Michael, you can definitely rank for this keyword but you have to know with how much effort and how much backlinking it requires. Just because the guy has 5 figures worth of backlinks doesnīt mean that you canīt overtake him. Theoretically, you might easily overtake him by having better on page factors, higher quality backlinks and from more sources. PR, domain age and on page also makes a difference in ranking extremely well. |

Don't just evaluate the no.1 spot. The no.2 and 3 spot might have a really weak site holding those places and those spots still bring in good traffic. Even better if your title tag is more relevant. Anything is possible though with time, effort and persistance. |

If you have a decent number of backlinks for your keyword anything is possible. Just depends on what the keyword or phrase is and the competition. If it is popular and your site is not it will be difficult.

You can get #1 for any keyword if you put in enough work for long enough. Other people are doing it every day... you can too if you take action an stick with it. |

It always depends with the strategies you are applying with your websites. It doesn't mean that if you had many backlinks, you will be ranking as number one at wiki..

The on-page stuff looks good for you. They key with those 13,000 backlinks is how many of them are high PR backlinks (PR 3 and up?). If not many, than I'd say you could possibly outrank them with only a few hundred high PR backlinks and solid on page seo.
