I had someone tell me the other day that directories are back in (at least for backlinking). However, I disagreed with her. Have you guys been hearing from Google anything about directories and if there is a change of attitude of placing one way links there?

I haven't heard anything about it at all however recently my main competitors have all purchased huge amounts of directory links. And score very very well, #1 for the keywords! I noticed this trend less than a month ago......I also know they have hired a huge SEO firm so I am guessing they have heard something about it!

Directories are still one of the most widely used methods of back linking. although you need to be patient for its results but it is effective and also there is no limit of its submission.

I have tried submitting to several directories with SubmitEaze, and I didn't see results even after 3 months.

I personally can vouch from experience, that I have not personally seen any significant increase in rankings after submitting sites to directories. I sell backlink guides and website development/optimization guides and never really mention using directories as a source of backlinks. I used to submit to directories but have since realized that it's a waste of time for me, for the most part. There's a good possibility you might get some traffic from the directories themselves though. |

They are not worth your time if you do it manually. Just automate it with some tools.

Directories are still in the business to improve your quantity of backlinks. I guess still Search Engine bots will frequently crawl those type of sites to index latest updates.

Submit them, then make sure you link to the URLs once authorised and also ping them to get the bots sniffing. Just submitting is not enough to get most links found in a directory, especially one with about a million buried sub-cats.

Directory links always have a value. It is not easy to get one way links from free directories because they don't provide approvals. But if you get approvals they have a value. Google actually consider the directory links.

I think google adores directories. For instance yahoo web directory is very popular with google (but it costs too). DMOZ is great too, but it is very hard to get into it. |

Directories are terrible unless you are talknig about high PR DMOZ ect. I paid $600 to have my site submitted to 5000 directories. Not ONE link was indexed by google! Wow! I know the links are there, I have a report with the URLS and have checked them, but google just ignored them. |

I outsource mine to wlmarketing.com. I always recommend them. If you do them manually yourself, they are not worth it. If you spend $50 and have someone else do it, its definitely worth it. No reason not to.

In my opinion, When your website is very new and you need to optimize your web page in Google, Directories would be a very worth full technique in that regard.

Some directories are still useful and submitting links to them worth. But if some people say directory submission is not good, they compare it with previous years. About 3-4 years ago, directories were one of the best resources for making backlinks for websites but nowadays they are not working as before.
