Default EMD (with drop) Question. Expierence people, do assist ;-)

I have a few questions, domain/seo experts assist if you can. Ive been doing well with seo; my positions are page 1 rank 3-9 (range, amongst a few). I was considering looking into EMD, and I narrrowed it down to three. Here is the intelligence on the EMD's.

11/28/06 (3 drops)
11/19/10 (3 drops)
12/6/03 (1 drop)

The dates are the creation date, based on whois tools it had those drops. They are exact match domains, and all are .net's.

My question is, (1) How bad is a drop and what is it exactly? My intentions are to buy, revamp a site dedicated to that keyword (im having trouble breaking my 3-9 positions amongst all my keys, but fee an emd would be easier to rank.

Anyhow, let me know what your thoughts are, thanks in advance.

If it's been dropped then I'm almost positive it won't be seen as an "aged domain"--if that's why you were looking at the drop dates..?

Yes it might have an issue being an "aged domain" in google's eyes, and if it has any PR there is a *chance* it will lose it. If you are using it as a money site, I wouldn't worry about the drop and go ahead and get it. My 2 cents...

Thanks.. Ive gone ahead and bought the domain a few days ago. I decided to get the older, 1 drop domain (12/6/03 (1 drop)) for 4 figures. Never spent more than 50 on a domain, so blaaaah. It has an exact search (keyword tools) of 12,100. This is my first exact match domain; my other domains are ranking positions 3-5 and it was hard to get them there.

Hopefully, with this -- it will be a bit easier, lol. But ill update given this is so.

Wow.

I would've registered www.exactmatchdomainx.com for $8 instead, and put the other $992 into SEO.

I am now taking on full-time SEO clients. PM me for more information.

lol -- ill check out that domain you listed; but all i need is two conversions to make my money back in commission which isn't all that hard. But anyhow ill report if its easier to rank or not with this emd. Site should go up (almost done) in the next 48 hrs.

Exactly what I would have done Mike. Not a big fan of paying big bucks for an EMD.

I'm with Mike and TB. But, to answer your question, you do have a chance of keeping the age and PR (AKA trustrank). Make sure you put private registration on it.

Ive yet to put private registration on it, any specific reason as to why you recommend this?

As for everything else... this is the first time I've ever doen something like this. As previously said, I dont think I ever spend more than 50 bux on a domain. But this was in the mid 4 figures and is a nice emd keyword. Ive been working the hell out of the site and just officially uploaded it this morning actually.

I'll report back if its easier to rank or not. It is nice and feels more assuring to have an emd thats 8+ yrs old tho :-)

I'm not Casey to answer that question But here's what I've read/heard from Terry Kyle. He thinks/recommends that you make them aged domains private ASAP because then Google doesn't get to know that there was an ownership change.
When he was starting off with aged domains, he never made them private and he noticed that with the next Google PR update that he lost all the PR. After that point onwards when he bought aged domains, he did private registration on the as soon as he could and he didn't lose PR of the aged domains in consequent PR updates from Google.
I think this piece of information is available freely in their backlinks forum, I hope I didn't give away something I read on Backlinks Hydra

This may be the reason why Casey suggested you do that!

I also bought a few 3 figure domains earlier this year. I didn't know about this 'privatizing' thing Terry suggests until after about a month or so after I had purchased them.

I am nobody to disagree with Terry Kyle, but the question I have is, if that theory is correct what happens when you sell a domain? Does it usually lose PR? I doubt it!

He probably knows something that I don't
