I'm trying to get a new project underway, both amazon and overstock are at the top, I know it's possible.. but how much effort will be involved do you think to out rank these authority sites, i'm trying to figure out if it's even worth playing here..

A simple drip feed should do it if the pages are not super high PR and then some .edu and .govs would be the icing on the cake Tyler Abernethy |

It's not hard, but it usually takes some time. I just wait it out for a few weeks and my sites usually outrank it.

It depends how optimized they are for it. pr NA and 0 amazon pages can be outranked relatively quickly. Even if they have PR 3/4/5 page on there and its completely unoptimized for that term you have a better shot at short term ranking. I've yet to determine how hard it is to outrank a pr 3/4/5 amazon page optimized for the exact KW though. |

I think it's more about the niche, technically there is no differences between amazon/overstock and other sites, so just check the niche, then you'll know whether it's easy or not.

It would also depend heavily on the keywords being targeted with respect to the product.

also consider writing unique content / review for your page. good onpage seo for keyword (title, h1/h2 tags, bold/italicize your keywords a few times, add an image with keyword as alt tag, etc.

One of the things I notice is how many inner links sites like overstock / amazon, etc have. Do inner links have much strength? If that's the case I think it will be impossible for me to outrank amazon with over 200 million inner links! haha |

I've seen wikipedia image pages (not the actual wiki article) that are PR6, here is one I found pretty easy that is PR4 hxxp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:OpelLutzmann.jpg My point is check the internal links for the page your trying to outrank in the SERPs.

I think you missunderstood me, or I wasnt clear. I realize that some inner pages can have higher rankings, but I'm asking if inner links have the same amount of BL juice as external links. Most retail sites have 20k + inner backlinks (pointing back at the main domain) do those have the same strength as external backlinks.. |

I do think you are mis understanding me. I'm not talking about page rank. I'm talking about volume inner back links. A site can have a PR 5 with less then 1000 inner backlinks, whereas a site can also have a pr of 5 with 50,000 inner backlinks |

I would imagine getting 20k backlinks from 20k external sources would be worth more than 20k backlinks from the same domain (internal links) given the same PR, relevancy, age, etc.
