Anyone have any thoughts on what the best practice is with your 404 not found pages? Should I just do a redirect to the home page, or simply notify the person that the page wasn't found and suggest other items that might be of interest? |

A redirect is probably not a good practice. It notifies the visitor of nothing. It is best to do a custom page with a short message, like: "That page is no longer available. Here are some links to pages you may like." Then give the same links as on your main page, or some combination. If you want a good laugh, check these out: 60 Really Cool and Creative Error 404 Pages But I would not recommend those type unless you have a very huge and popular website. Paul |
