Is this considered duplicate content?

On my site map I have a little blurb under each heading. Most, I simply copied the first paragraph of the page. Would this be read as duplicate content by Google?

I would assume that it is not. Most blogs have excerpts of articles on their homepage.
But I don't think anyone can give a definitive answer since the algorithm is unknown.

No if it is just an excerpt then you will be okay - especially if the entire pages' content is not an the sitemap for each link.
