Should i register this domain?

Searching aimlessly on Google keyword tool and godaddy, and found a potentially valuable domain to register.

2 word keyword phrase, gets 40,000 exact searches a month.

So i can register keyword-phrase.com or keywordphrase.net/org. (non hyphenated .com is gone)

That was my first dilemma. Lots of research yields no clear answer on which is preferable.

Looked into it in more detial and 22,000 of those searches come from Malaysia, 12,000 from Australia.

Should I then look at registering keywordphrase.my (malaysian extension) or even .asia?

Google also shows very low competition for this keyword. I don't know exactly how I would monetise the site yet, but I certainly wouldn't be developing it so it's either ad revenue or sell on at some point...

I am a noob with domaining and SEO. Though I feel if i use this as an experiment and learning curve I could get it to rank on the first page, if not first position for this keyword with little competition.

Is there any value in this? Any thoughts or advice welcome.

I would just go for the .com with the dash.

I recently registered a 4-word exact match dot com with dashes and had no problem SEOing it. I had over 1K+ pages indexed in just a 3-4 days and long tail SEO traffic coming in that time frame.

I wouldn't go with the Asian domain extensions, but that opinion of mine may just be based on personal preference -- haven't read anything on it nor conducted any empirical research.

Only other issue I'm wondering about is this:

I have a suspicion, that these searches are all *intended* for a specific subdomain which appears on the first page of google. ie keyword.foxnews.com

If this is indeed the case, will searches be likely to click on my page at all? Because they'll know what they're looking for and my page clearly isn't it.

I don't know if this is what's happening, but it's something tha I'm wondering about. Would it still be worth registering for the small % of traffic that might come my way?

Statistically, the #1 listing gets ~50% of the clicks anyway. So, in your case, you seem to feel that #1 listing will greatly exceed 50% of the clicks.

I guess, it depends on... whether you can think capture the #2 or #3 spot and what how much traffic you think you can get. Also, are their related long tail words?

Hard to provide any recommendation without knowing more about the keyword and niche.
