Is there a way to outrank Wikipedia?

Hello Warriors,

For the past few months, I have been doing SEO on my site and am pleased with the result that I have achieved thus far.

Keyword 1 on Google.co.uk
Page 1 on Position 3

Keyword 2 on Google.co.uk
Page 1 on Position 2

However, in order to achieve top spot on Google for both keywords, there are organic listing from Wikipedia.

My question is has any warrior experienced a similar situation and found set of strategies to enable achieve top spot on Google?

Any help or advice will be very much appreciated.

How many backlinks does that particular wikipedia page have, and what quality are they? What they will have in their favour is domain age, and links to entire domain. This is why they rank well for a lot of terms. However, if you type something like 'golf' into google, you will only see them in 3rd spot (well when I searched anyway). This means that 2 other sites have outranked them. So yes it is possible, but it all depends how well they are optimized, just like any other site your are competing against.

I have outranked wikipedia for one term I was targetting, I didn't really do anything different, just normal link building. But I had an EMD so I am sure that had something to do with it.

Ok so it definitely looks doable. As I mentioned, the reason they are ranking so well with minimal backlinking, is probably due to the power of their overall site. As 'Jacked' pointed out, you can definitely outrank them. Just keep doing what you normally would for any other site you were trying to outrank.

its too hard to out rank wikipedia, because wikipedia is getting natural link from so many sites, only thing we can do it creating quality backlink.

It is definitely doable. I had sites that outrank Wikipedia after 8 months.

Bit of advice, try and offer watches to people that are interested in them, like on a watch forum.

You can outrank pages from wikipedia, if your page is offering more comprehensive information about the topic. That's the best way to outrank them, given that it's hard to compete with it in terms of attracting natural links.

It's not about whether it's Wikipedia or not, just take that page as an usual page from other normal sites, to uprank it may take time and need lots of work, but what I want to say is Google trade all websites fairly, you just need keep on doing what you need to do.

I think only do follow backlinks with high PR can help to outrank wikipedia.Because it is never easy to outrank wikipedia.So do quality link building for your website by using targeted keyword in anchor text.

Yes, I have had a client outrank Wikipedia. Basically we just built backlinks to his site.

I never saw any sites to outrank wikipedia. Usually wikipedia is on the first place for any keyword that is a definition.
