I don't think you want the "fastest" method of increasing backlinks; Google likes to see natural backlink growth. The "fastest" way would be to go to the WSO forum and buy a few of those packs of 30,000 profile links or whatever. But the best way is to start off naturally, with forum posting and blog commenting, maybe buying a few high PR links here and there.

Building backlinks is a little tricky job, though it doesn't need a lot of brain once you know what SEO is but till then I believe its a little tricky, I think my fellow warriors will agree to it.

There should be a certain variety in the kind of backlinks you create to your website to get it ranked quickly.

You can go for press releases, article submissions, blog commenting, profile links as off page SEO and then there is on page SEO to be taken care of too.

I will suggest you to go for variety of links and watch the improvement in SERP's and then keep making them or get them done regularly.

Do not make thousands of backlinks at once, you may end up getting sandboxed.

Yes, fasest does equal best, especially when you're running a new site, "fastest" probably drive you in "sandbox". And if you're not talking about new site, try a tool called "directorybot", I used it before to submit my websites to directories, but you know, comparing with backlinks from article submission sites and blog, directories submission often take really long time to get approved. So my suggestion is try to use social media websites, besides can get backlinks, also a good way to generate traffic.

My advice to you will be to go for quality over quantity. Getting a few thousands links is not a credible job, but getting a handful of 100-200 high quality links can really change your website ranking and search engine exposure... Ahh, good old backlinking.

First, if you can afford it, outsource it. I don't know many people who enjoy this tedious little task.

But, if you aren't to that point you have a ton of options. I think they've been extremely well covered in this thread and you'll have more than enough info to get started.

Just remember, SEO is an ongoing process and you don't see results overnight.

To get a lot of high value backlinks I do one technique. Write interesting article, something really valuable and create youtube video about it. Put this article in some really huge article directories and people publish on their sites so I get a lot of backlinks. They are all real natural backlinks with no tricks involved.

Of course you have to research keywords and insert them in to the body and title.

I tested one more thing. I wrote press release, researched keywords and inserted in the title and body, I also get a lot of backlinks.

But it is not about backlinks alone, it is very good to get a lot of traffic and higher conversion than normal.
