Default How To Get Inbound Links

Hi All,

Other than articles with my links included in the bio and submitting to directories for one way back links and adding comments on blogs, sending out press releases ... what is the best way of getting other backlinks ?

Also, when finding out who links to your competition, reverse engineering is it called ? ... how do you get them to link to you - do you simply send them an e-mail asking them to link back or is there something more to it or that I can do to ?

I've never sent out e-mails asking people to link to me - so far, I've only ever used Directory Submitter (Bryxen) to submit my sites to the directories and I've used the methods mentioned like comments and articles.

I'm after ways of getting back links that do not require me to pay for them.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I've got loads of outbound links, mainly affiliate links.

The older sites do quite well but they could do better hence why I'm looking for a way of getting more inbound links.

Here are tips you can take to encourage people to come back to your site while improving your search engine performance.

1. Compelling content
2. Testimonials
3. Online directories
4. Writing articles for other sites

I agree with mattlaclear.

An outbound link from your Squidoo lens or Hubpage to your money site is still an inbound link to your money site.

Any link that is on your site even nofollow that goes to another website is an outbound link. I want high pr inbound links.

I have even read in some SEO forums that it is not advisable to have more than three or four outbound links per page. I try to limit my outbound links per page.

For inbound links I use and it works for me:

Article Marketing

Blog Commenting - I tend to do semi-manual submissions using Blog Comment Demon. I use it to find blogs and then write a relevant comment. You can still easily do this in Google. Look up Blog Footprints to find relevant blogs in the different Blog engine categories. Search the forum for blog footprints.

Press Releases - I submit to the free PR sites. Search on the forum to find lists.

Directory Submissions - But I don't spend a lot of time on this because I find it doesn't help me much.

Social Bookmarking - At least for me I have cut this down because again it doesn't help me as much as it used to.

RSS Feed submission - I use Feedagg and Feedage mainly.

Others use forum posting well. I don't have the time so I don't do this.

And then there is forum profiles that has been the rage for awhile. I tend to stay away from this too.

My name is Ken Katz and I am a web designer and photographer.

Hi Jane,

I've heard that guest posting (asking webmaster for a link exchange or article in return for a link on one of their pages) is extremely effective. One of the most powerful links.

Plus, it's whitehat too.

Please do not use affiliate links in signatures

Cheers everyone - quite a bit to be going on with now with all the suggestions.

The majority of outbound links are affiliate links so I've no choice there, especially as I earn from those links.

Just after more inbound ones to get a better listing on Google.

Thanks again everyone - much appreciated !!!

Matt's spot on. You need to have more inbound links than outbound links. It's perfectly fine to have outbound links (after all, that's what makes this a world wide "web"!), just remember that you need more links pointing to you than pointing to other people.

Calfred brought up a great tip. Guest posting is a great way to get inbound links AND get your name out in front of targeted traffic.

One thing I would suggest you do to get your link building going... Take a look at the top 3 Google results for your target keywords, see what kind of links they have, and see if you can get links from the same places.

For example, if your #1 competitor has links from a bunch of directories, go to those directories and see if you can get listed there, too. By doing that, you're already starting to close the gap on your competition.

Nicole Beckett can get you out of the content "rat race"... You don't have to settle for junk... For SEO content writing that stands above the rest, visit the team of professional journalists at Premier Content Source!

Thanks again ...

One site in particular used to be #1 on Google for a highly searched term in the finance market but the site is now on page 2.

What I've found is that the big boys in the industry (in the UK) are now above my site, Confused.com, Moneysupermarket, big banks etc ... is it ever possible to get above them again as no doubt they have loads of people linking to them, even through affiliate links ?

Blog commenting and Forum Profiles are a pretty easy way of getting backlinks to your site.

Cheers everyone ...

I have Comment Kahuna for blog commenting but I find it very slow - does anyone know if it such be such a long process ?

CK just seems to help me find blogs to comment on and that is about it - it does have an auto fill feature but from my little knowledge, I presume it is best to have as unique a comment as possible.

As I want to quicken up the commenting promotion - is there something better to help me ?

The only things I've heard of are ScrapeBox and Blog Comment Demon - can anyone tell me which is the BEST software out of these 2 and do they exceed Comment Kahuna ?

Or is there something better again without heading down the route of xRumer which I've now dismissed ?
