Question about Google Dance (What's Happening With My Website)

My websites been "dancing" or got "penalized" for about a month but it's bouncing everywhere.

For about 3 weeks the website was no where to be seen, then about a week ago it jumped to the bottom of the 3rd page, then bottom of 2nd, then to the 1st, and now to the 7th page.

How long does "dancing" usually last for? I'm trying to keep building backlinks to my website because the traffic at #1 is well worth it but sometimes I think I'm wasting my time because it may not come back to the #1 spot?

What do you guys think?

I'm working on an FAQ for your site dropping like this. Depending on the age of the site, it could be your Honeymoon wearing off, or backlinks expiring or both. Let me know what happens and I'll add it to the FAQ:

The thing is the #1 spot is a .org of the EMD and it has 6 PR 0 dofollow backlinks and its holding the #1 spot. I have been building backlinks throughout the weeks and I still got the drop.

Things WILL stabilise. If you want a figure, for a modest EMD I am seeing around 3 months for things to start settling down. I feel that then is a good time to maybe start backing off the link-building a little to 'maintenance' levels.
