Default Is it difficult to get a keyword based domain?

Experts say that keyword based domains go a long way in improving the traffic to a site. Is it difficult to get a keyword based domain?

It depends on your keywords. Even then if the keyword.com is taken the keyword.net might be available. Take it a step further and the keyword-with-dashes.com might be available.

Too many variables here to correctly answer your question without knowing the keyword.

Want to make sales? Build relationships. Think about it.

Thanks for the answer. I read elsewhere that domain selection has become quite competitive these days.

If you have something inparticular you are chasing then you can make use of services such as dropday.com to get your domains in the after market. You might have to compromise on them a little but with the huge influx of people trying microsites a year ago, there are plenty on the market that you can grab with an established link profile and 12months (or more) age.

I find exact match keyword domain names all the time. Most of the ones I find are for niche sites. It really depends on what niche you are looking at. Also, takes some imagination.

There's no problem in choosing the domain as you can get any combination of KW to the exact domain and this rank well too. What you have to worry is how u promote this site.

There is a heavy competition even while promoting the site. Yes you are right.

By searching the net, checking out domain suggestion tools and websites which are in most cases either registrars or acting as resellers of the big companies, you will find a lot of names which can be registered and owned. Sometimes, especially in very hot terms and niches, you may consider using dashes and hyphens or purchasing established names and websites which have been operating online for years.

The paid sites can even help you having easier times later on and when it comes to working on their SEO tasks since a website for example which has been online for more than one year and having hundreds of links can get ranks in its niche better and faster than a newly set up domain that is still in Sandbox filter. Please note that even getting a keyword rich domain does not guarantee achieving top ranks always.

A program like Micro Niche Finder will help you easily find keyword domains that are available.

If you're looking for an exact match domain to rank FAST, that is exactly that -- if you add a word, it's no longer an exact match. You'll still rank faster than a broader phrase (or a "branded" name that doesn't have the keyword in it), but not as fast as SPECIFICPHRASE.COM. Google doesn't rank hyphenates as well as non-hyphenates. Personally, I would rather have a non-specific .com over a specific .org or .net or .whatever, and then just build links and traffic to it. That would be for a money site... if you're thinking more in terms of feeder sites, then an exact match would be advantageous no matter what extension it is. IMHO.

Try long-term keyword domains that would be easier.

no, its not difficult as long as your domain is long tail. However keywords in domain is not that much important according to my experience.

As a new reg. it can be difficult but if you take time to be bit creative you can still get a good domain name with your main keyword in it. But do not just look for new registrations, sometimes you can get really good keyword domain for few hundred bucks form Sedo or some other domain marketplace.

Hey Prasanth,

Getting new exact match keyword .com's is becoming quite difficult, this is dues to that fact that .com's are rarer than other extensions and access to Google keyword data is so abundant nowadays. You can however find exact match fairly easy in other extensions still: .net, .org or country specific domains like .com.au for australia.

If you are really struggling to get brand new exact match domains due to the popularity of the keyphrase then you may wish to opt for a phrase match domain. A phrase match domain contain the keyphrase in that keyword order but does contain another word so say you were going for the keyphrase "magic tricks" and none of the exact match keyphrase domain were available (magictricks.com etc) then you could opt for a suffix or prefix meaning adding another word or letter to the end or beginning. An example of a prefix would be iMagicTricks.com or MyMagicTricks.com, and example of a suffic would be MagicTricksOnline.com or MagicTricksBlog.com. These would not have the same SEO advantage as an exact match (currently).

Failing that if you are looking for SEO power in a domain why don't you look for an aged domain with ready made Page Rank and backlinks and in some cases DMOZ listings and Yahoo directory listings and sometimes you may find that the exact match is available as an aged domain either because it is deleting or if someone has it for sale.

You can find these types of Domains at Domainface (this is owned by me) http://www.domainface.com
- there is a free option but obviously the paid option is better :-)

I hope this helps

Kenny

it depends on how common the keywords are. domains are being registered every second and filling every possible keyword/phrase. but you can think out of the box and register your keyphrases with a rare/uncommon tld and you'll be good to go

Key word in domain is very good for SEO. Always they rank well in search engine result. But, finding exact key word match domain mostly depends on niche. If you do not get it free then try changing very little at the end of the key word.
