Backlinks Disappearing

so i have been building backlinks, both manually and buying packets of backlinks offered here on the WF and at one point i was up to 410 for my entire domain. (note: verify on yahoo site explorer). but for the past 2 weeks i have seen this number slowly taper off and now i only have 299 listed.

am i doing something wrong? do backlinks usually recede like this?

I'm not really experienced in this field, but I'm pretty sure what's happening is that a lot of the places that you posted backlinks on are becoming backlink havens for a bunch of random links. The site owners who care see this and then remove your links. The other 299 though either have no idea it's happening, don't care, or don't know how to get rid of it. Just keep posting new backlinks.

i have heard of backlinks disappearing. it not uncommon. but when your links on pages are deleted, your backlinks will disappear. think of it that way. it's the same way majestic seo will tell you your the number of backlinks that have been deleted. try using it to see if the deleted/disappeared numbers conform then you'll be certain your links got deleted. just google 'majestic seo'.

They jump up and down all the time in YSE for no reason. Some days YSE likes to report half of what it did the week before. Try using Majestic SEO: Site Explorer

Are you using Profile links? Most profile services including "High PR" profile services, here have a stick rate of 30% or lower after 4 weeks.
We use a list of forums which have been checked and filtered to have much higher stick rates. 50% after 8 weeks, and after which time they will usually stick forever.

Backlinks are in a constant state of "Flux".
