What is the purpose of video marketing?

Hi,

I would like to find out the purpose of video marketing..

Is it for backlinks? or direct traffic only?

A lot of video sites don't allow commercial content or backlinks...?

Hello AllyChurch,

To answer your question, video marketing can be a very powerful tool for building traffic to a website or service. With the extreme popularity of sites like YouTube, you are now able to quickly promote a website and reach a broader audience simply by posting quality video content.

As well, you are correct that you will receive direct links to your site, and many times you can offer click-able backlinks (just make sure that you write in your URL to the video in some way).

On the SEO side of things, I have seen some of my video links shoot to the top of the list with Google and other search engines. I have written countless articles in a similar manner that take much longer to even get near the first page of results.

There are a ton of fun and useful ways to market with videos, has anyone else seen similar results with video content?

Something like YouTube, is generally used for direct traffic to referral links and viruses mostly.

Video marketing is not mainly used for backlinks. The primary purpose is to generate traffic from it and as for straight commericials, most video sites don't allow it but I've seen a few commercials on youtube which even had a lot of views but they use this learn and click technique to get under the radar like they try teaching something while pushing out their commercial heavily in the tutorial and it works pretty well too.

Both. Videos, if they become popular, can bring massive amounts of traffic to your site. The backlink from an authority video site definitely doesn't hurt also.

i dont agree with the above few posts; video backlinks do help boost serp positions. Ive ran video campaigns and saw good boosts in google.

yes videos can serve as backlinks but that's not the main purpose of doing so. Creating a dang good video even if it's just 3-5 minutes can get it viral VERY fast and you can drive traffic to your website and monetize it..

Here's a tip, you don't have to match a Niche (eg. doing a video about affiliate marketing for internet marketers), you can go bigger and match the DEMOGRAPHIC, say if you know, that a sewing niche is mainly consists of elder women, you can do up "How To Sew Butterfly" video and bring them to a CPA lingerie offer....

That's where the power of video marketing is.. and you can easily come up with a simple video with the free tools out there just google them!
