Default Forum with high page rank, but each thread is na 0, Is it worth it to post ?

Just wondering if the back link would be 0 or if the home page is 7 would be 7?

The thread would not get PR7. At most it might get PR4 if it gets a lot of traction, but most likely it won't even go that high unless you build a bunch of external links to it yourself.

PR2 would probably be a safe bet.

Posting on a PR7 forum would most likely mean that your forum posts are more likely to be picked up by Google. That said, large forums like that might also have more traffic so it's hard to say. Normally a thread won't get a PR unless it's been on the front page of one of the major forums for a while.

I have looked at threads running 2 years with 1900 replies with dozens of pages, and picking even old ones Threads random, it is a industry site, the home page has a PR of 7, every thread page comes up na. I am just wondering if it is worth it posting on forums.

OK, it can't hurt, but I was after some high page rank back links. I have also been offered a 6 pack of Corona's for ever Ten PR7 and up back links. OK, I think it will really be 3 as she I hope drinks half as well. Beats the crap out of being a keyboard warrior on a Friday night

I really should be learning this for my sites as well to be honest.

For all intents and purposes, most (if not all) threads are likely to be PR-0. This especially applies to new ones for which any existing PR flowing through the site hasn't yet "bedded in" for these pages (or at least not that you can measure, due to the infrequency of which Google updates the public-facing PageRank values).

So yes, PR-0 is the answer, really.

Don't let that stop you, though. If the forum is context-relevant and all the rest, it'll still be worth getting a few backlinks from it. Just expect the backlink value to diminish somewhat after a point: links from a single source can only count for so much, otherwise it'd be trivially easy for anyone to build vast quantities (potentially an unlimited number) of links from a single source, or a handful of them, and game their way to the top of the SERPs.

Backlink diversity is important.

Also, if you happen to find on a forum an inactive thread for which the page has a decent, measurable PageRank, don't be a nuisance by resurrecting it. That sort of stuff, on many forums, is likely to get your posts deleted and/or result in your account being banned/deleted (and ALL your backlinks disappearing).

Just participate as you would a regular, helpful member who didn't join to engage in self-promotion, and your links will more than likely stick.

The web site doesn't have a PR, only pages get PR. If you mean that the home page is PR7, but the threads are PR0, then what ever page you put your link on, that is the PR that is divided between the outgoing links.

It still has value to get a link from such a page, as there is link juice flowing from the home page to the page you put your link on, and then to your page. Also, that page with your link should raise its PR over time.

These kind of link is not as good as a backlink from the main page on a PR 2 site. However, a link is still a link and you get traffic from forum if it is a high traffic forum.

This is what I have just learnt, thank you, I understand much better now.
Can you also give guidance to the following question?

Q1: If I get a back link from a PR6 page, to my 'contact us' page, does that only help my contact us page, or the whole site ?

Q2: If I paid to have a ad with a link on a PR6 page (happens to be a home page), does that only count for the month that I pay for the ad is there? I mean, I know after a month (assuming I pay for 1 month) the ad will go, but will the history of this back link keep helping me in the future?

It will help the page that that backlink is pointing to the most, for sure, but PageRank/link-juice does flow around internally, too - providing you have a decent internal linking structure, of course. If you have that, then it will help other pages somewhat, too. Though by how much specifically, it's impossible to say. Too many factors to consider, here.

All backlinks help (to varying degrees) toward increasing a domain's/site's overall authority, anyway. And this is why so many pages on authority-laden sites with a good internal linking structure can rank well for relatively tough keywords with only a few (and sometimes zero) backlinks to that specific page.

There's no "set answer", here. It depends on the terms under which you've bought a backlink.

(And be careful with buying backlinks - if they're in any way "obvious" to Google, they can and will be discounted and will no longer contribute anything toward your SEO efforts).

Some sites will sell backlinking opportunities for a one-off fee, and those links should last indefinitely, for as long as that page/site remains online; others will simply offer them on a rental basis. So clearly if you cease paying, the link will eventually vanish.

Once a backlink vanishes, it won't count toward your rankings or help with your SEO any longer.

Man people get so hung up on PR.. PR of your website will not make you convert more (although you would look more pro, so maybe) but what i mean is unless you want to sell your website, it is pointless (ish) and it is the content of your website that matters.. and how people arrive at your website, and content. SO a link is a link as said, and the more relevant links you have around the internet, the more chances of being clicked! Its a bit like having a shop in the country in a cul-de-sac... people will never find your shop unless you have lots of billboards in high traffic areas..

Even this thread also still PR 0! So it's very hard to find forum posts that is >PR2 . Its only possible if this link comes from a higher PR pages.
