Say I have about 4-5 websites in a popular niche and I'm linking them together, can I get in trouble with this even though they are all legitamite websites? Thanks |

I'm also wondering the same thing. I have one main site that generates lots of traffic, people forwarding comments to social boomarking sites etc... Then I have a referral site I just made two weeks ago that I put on my main site with a keyword anchor. I didn't put any links for the main site onto the referral site, because I've heard before that if you own two sites and you put links to both, Google notice this and values your sites less? Sorry if all this doesn't make sense but I'm still new right now and trying to learn the pieces I still don't know. |

No, in case of 4-5 websites, not at all, it won't make anger the big G, while in case of a longer list of websites, say suppose, 40-50 websites, surely it would effect your sites' ranking. regards |

I actually did this a few days back. I have several sites that rank # 1-5. I threw up anchor links for the opposite site in the hopes that it would help. So far, my ranks have not dropped - my assumption would be to do it. I dont see it as a problem.

Best kept secret: linking your sites together, ala amazon, wikipedia, gasbuddy, failblog, go.com, etc. I know. They're big boys. Come on. If you don't want to run with the big dogs, stay on the porch. I strive to go big, and have always told people to check out what the big sites do. They weren't always big sites, BTW. Why there is ever such a fear is way beyond me. Paul |

if you have sites in the same niche but different categories it would only make sense to link them together. Now, linking to your outdoor survival knives site from your kids toys site might seem a bit off.

You got me on that one. In fact, I gotta remember that for future reference. That's a good tip. Don't blatantly link to something that your visitors may find a little "offending" just for a backlink. In fact, I have sites that don't mix and purposely don't link up for that reason. Paul

There should be no problem as I do that with my sites. But if you want to play safe, you can use 3 way linking meaning Site1 links to Site 2, Site 2 links to Site 3, Site 3 links to Site 4 and so on. |

Wouldn't three way be 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 1? Or do I just not understand 3-way linking?

No you won't get in trouble. And if these 4-5 blogs are in the same niche talking about different topics, it's even better if you can link them together! Google likes good content seriously and if you provide that, you're good to go. The reason so many people said not to link to your own websites is because they are probably refering to AutoBlogs, Google doesn't like Autoblogs so you won't want to link them together, if Google finds out 1 Autoblog, sandbox it, it follows the link and go to the other, sandbox it, and on and on.... Hope I clarified! Joe |
