Hello, I have a website about mobile phones. Under Google Adwords keyword checker some of the clicks appear to be quite valuable, but this is not what I am seeing in my clicks that I am getting from the website. I haven't been smart priced, judging by the value of clicks from websites in other sectors. I know the tech surfers are going to be more savvy resulting in a less click-through, but I have checked the sites and the ads seem relevant, but not 100% so, I am also suspecting that the image ads are not converting well but it says that a image is the highest paying one (when it appears). Is there any tips I can use to optimise my sites further? Or does anyone have any other experiences with this niche? I understand there is a lot of competition behind this. |

You might want to try section targeting to get ads that are better matched to your content. Check this out: https://www.google.com/adsense/suppo...n&answer=23168 How are you getting your traffic? What searches are done mostly to find your site and does that match the cpc you're seeing? |

Thanks. I hadn't thought about the section targeting. Traffic is mostly organic via Google search. It's hard to say whether this matches the CPC as there are many pages but I would have thought that what I'm getting should be better. A lot of the ads are targeting mobile phones with contract, which surely is good values, but I'm seeing nothing like that. Also another thing (about 10-20% of the time) I am seeing a 336 x 250 box only have one ad in it instead of four. Is that normal? Surely there would be no shortage of ads. |

There are literally hundreds of things that go into the CPC that an ad on your site will get. You cannot judge anything by adwords "prices." The content network is so much cheaper than search to begin with. You see one ad because only one ad is bidding on that size, or nobody else has a QS to make it to the top. You might take note that the top ad does not always have the highest CPC. The other bidders may only be bidding on places 4 and below. If you research a little about adwords, you will know what goes into bidding, placement, etc. to come up with ads for your site. Not everyone who bids will bid on your site. Maybe the lowest tier bids. There's a lot of things people don't realize about the price of ads on your site. If your site is new and has no history, ads will be cheap, and big name players will avoid it until it shows promise. There really is whole lot more to it than checking some price list and thinking that's what you will get. Keep in mind you only get 68% of the money for a click. If search is $10 a click, the content network is probably $5. The people bidding on your site may be in the $1 range, giving you 68 cents for a click. People will look and say, gee I should be getting $10 a click and google is cheating me with only 68 cents. Many people realize they average about 50 cents a click, which is probably average for the average site that has no history, and nothing special. Niche does not matter. You cna make big bucks, or little bucks no matter what your niche. That too is a big myth about building some insurance site and getting rich quick. Paul |
