Default EMD - 12,000 exact searches, $2.50 CPC

Just stumbled upon an EMD with 12,000 exact searches and $2.50 CPC.

The .com/.net/.org are all available (well I actually bought the .com)

It does have a trademarked term in the name.

My question is what are the chances I can flip this without building it? Would it be better to buy all 3 and offer them as a package?

Or did I waste $10 buying this domain?

Most buyers won't buy TM domain names.

I'd pick a non trademarked domain name if my intention was to flip them.

Yep, you've just wasted $10. What's trademarked term?

How can you say he wasted $10 without knowing what a trademark term is? lol

No you didn't waste $10 on a trademarked term. The odds of the company actually coming down on you or requesting a cease and desist are very slim.

Build the site out, slap some Adsense on it, and see what you come up with. No one will but the domain for very much (if at all) if they see you just bought and registered the domain recently...

And expect half of whatever CPC you see. Good find IMO.

CHEERS!

I'm going to go ahead and build the site. And yeah, I know I'll get 1/2 or so.

We'll see how it goes!

Yea personally I always stay away from domains with trademark names in them. Just not worth the risk. I'd imagine anyone investing a decent amount of money in one would probably have the same view. Could be wrong though...

I missed a word out, meant to say what is the trademarked term.

I normally agree with your posts but that is utter rubbish. You're advising someone to build a website on the sand, I wouldn't invest a penny into a site that could quite easily be shut down for extremely legitimate reasons.

I had a site 2 years ago with a trademark name in the domain for a popular fat loss product. I received an email via my hosting company from the trademark owner's lawyers asking me to shut the site down or face litigation. I shut the site down and put this down to experience. Just informing you to be aware of the risks.

There are tons of sites that exist that have a brand name in the domain. Some get taken down - Some don't. If you do a decent job on your site and represent the brand appropriately without defacing the product of company, then I believe you'll be ok...

Make sure you put in your TOS that you are not affiliated with the brand name and they don't endorse your site blah blah blah... The legal mumbo jumbo.

There was a pretty in-depth discussion about this that I was involved in like a year ago - The consensus of that long ass thread was probably half-and-half.

Can the brand name ask you to remove your site or change names?! Sure they can. Sometimes the risk is worth the reward though!! LOL!

There are so many keywords to go for, why would you want to risk your effort for nothing. I had one site got up to #1 and bam! email from lawyers.

You may get away with it or you may not! Only one way to find out.

If the competition is beatable with ease, I would just build the site and get it ranked. If you have to spend $1000s and months/years, then that's a different story.

In my early days, I registered several domain names with trademarked names in them. LEGO, Barbie and John Deere

I received a letter from lawyers of LEGO asking me to give up the domain, which I did, no big deal. I had already built the Barbie site and was ranking like #5-6 for a low competition long tail kw. I have done a little bit of backlinking to this one (most of it, using ineffective methods - my early days ) and to date it has earned me over $500, may be even $1000. However, I don't do anymore work to bring it to the top, I just let it be where it is. Don't want to bring it to the limelight.

The John Deere domain, I let it expire. Why? Because I didn't see a single domain with the name John Deere in it. I also saw that the domain that I bought had been dropped 3 times before me (which I didn't realize at the time of purchase) which told me that John Deere lawyers are sharp.

But I see many domains with the kw Barbie inside them, which probably means that Barbie lawyers aren't that strict.

If you're going to build an authority site on it and spend a fortune on it, please don't; if not, you may want to take the chance.

The person who sees both sides of the problem goes nowhere

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not going to make it into an authority site. I was just going to make it a mini site.

I might not worry about it though. We'll see. It sure looks good on paper if the lawyers don't come calling...
